Today I'm 4 weeks post PC for heart block. All was going well till 10/12 when I experienced a substernal moderate pain increasing with deep breathing. Was dicharged 10/16 and now feel pretty good. Was Dxed Pericarditis and Hemopericardium. In hospital I was primarily observed and the echogram 10/13 was essentially normal except for a trace of fluid in the pericardial sac(the prio one 10/15) showed a small amt. This complication was due to irritation or puncture of the heart wall. Was told that there was trouble in inserting the ventricle lead.Still worried that this might occur again. Has anybody out there had this happen ? Am healthy except for this problem. Thank all,Hagen

Pericarditis

Hi, Hagen.

I was diagnosed with pericarditis about this time last year. It was PAINFUL. I couldn't breathe without pain. It was worse when I was upright or laying down but a little bit better when I bent over. It took me about 2 months to get rid of it with the medication and all. My EP can't say for sure what caused it because it was diagnosed so late, but I had a sinus infection that got into my lungs (via drainage) then traveled over to my heart and exacerbated it. Are you taking any medications for it? How are you feeling now? If you start feeling worse or have trouble breathing without pain, definitely call you doc and go in. Don't mess around with pericarditis!

Hope you are feeling better!

I had my pm put in June 06. My heart had just stopped for 30 seconds in the hospital and I got it that night. I was sent home the next day. 2 days later I had a lot of pain when I layed down to sleep or rest. I had to go into NYC and had new leads put in. It seems one of the first leads had punctured my heart wall and if I remember what he said ( i was under the influence!) it was rubbing a lung and there was blood around my heart. They fixed it there and after a couple of days I was sent home and told to take it very easy for 3 months. I did and have no problems with the pm. Good luck to you and the only other comment I would have is toi see an EP instead of a cardio. This is what they specialize in.

I have had my pacer since 2005. At first it ruled my life. It took some time to calm down and make the mental adjustment. I had trouble sleeping and I worried a lot about pulling wires. Now I just live my life as I wish.
