Medical Examination: Please help

Hi,

I just got a much better job opportunity than my current one. It is a sales job which involves both office work and travelling. The new company has a policy of medical checkup for every new employee.

During interview process they didnt ask about my medical history. But now I am afraid that my PM could come in my careers way. Is it possible that I will be rejected during medical examination?? Are PM wearer not consider fit for jobs which require some travelling?? My general health is good and I feel fit for the job otherwise. If any one has similar experince or advice please share with me. I am very much anxious these days.

Thanks in advance!

PM and job opportunity

I am not sure how the discrimination laws work in the US, but I could assure you that if someond was denied employment because of their PM they would have a Human Rights case on their desk so fast.

The problem.....of course the employer could say they were not the valid candidate for the job for a variety of reasons and they don't have to be because of the persons PM.

If the job is physical like a Firefighter there could be circumstances that "might" rule them out for the possibility of becoming a firefighter....it's like being able to pass the eye sight test if you want to be a pilot or a police officer. So if we look at it in those terms....I could see someone being refused.

I am a nurse....I lift with assistance 300 & 400 lbs patients, I transfer them I do all sorts of physical work with patients and I have had my PM the whole time I was nursing....I have never had any restrictions nor been denied a job because of my PM.

Insurance here is very different. We have universal health care...my employer pays for the premiums....if I worked for an employer who didn't pay the premiums I would ...and it would be the same if I had a PM or not. Now in addition to the health care insurance I have personal insurance....it's the personal insurance that is the tricky thing...it works very similar to how your insurance for medical works in the states. I pay higher premiums because I have a PM.

I can't see a job of doing inside and outside sales a problem when it comes to your PM....personally I would challenge it if I was not successful...assuming that you meet all the other criteria.

Good luck!

Insurance

Pacerpacer poses a good question. Could a person be rejected due to what this condition could do to a group insurance policy? My employer changed health insurance carriers on July 1 of this year. I was diagnosed on June 30th. Implant was done on July 22nd. I don't have to tell you what a nightmare the insurance thing has been! The previous company paid for the stress test & heart cath. The new company is dragging their feet on the implant even tho it was precertified. The way insurance costs are going, I can see that being a determining factor someday even tho it's probably illegal on some level. I'm petrified of losing my job someday (I'm elected so it could happen!) & having to find a new one because of this.
