Intro

Hello Folks,

Im new to the PM Club. I've had a pacemaker since 1991 when I was 11 or 12. I'm currently 28 and I'm on my third pacemaker (installed last November).

I would love to meet other PM folks who are under 30 to chat with.

This last pacemaker install has thrown me for a loop personally. I haven't quite recovered mentally from the procedure. Possibly lead to a mild depression, but I work on it daily.

I look forward to hearing from others.

Will

What's different this time around?

Hi Will,

Another welcome to the club here too! I'm not under 30, but I like to think I'm not too far over it yet either (I'm 33). I'm on my first pacemaker, and hopefully have a lot of life left on it (er, so to speak).

Since I've never had my PM replaced, your post made me wonder - do you have any idea what made this time different for you in terms of the way you're reacting to it? I always figured the replacements would be easier than the initial implantation, but it sounds like that's not always the case...? If you don't mind talking about it (and feel free not to! Or, feel free to send me a private message if you don't want to discuss it publicly), can you tell us more about what you're finding hard to deal with this time around? Maybe it'll give the rest of us some help when it's time for us to have replacements too...

Anyway, nice to meet you and thanks for posting. :)

Take care,
Stephanie

Hello!

Heya, Will.

I am 30, so I hope I still fit the bill for the age requirement! Ha ha :) Like Stephanie, I am also on pacemaker numero uno. I was also curious why you might think this replacement was different for you? I would think being 11 or 12 and getting a pm would be a bit scary and devastating and that you might have more stress and depression from that initial implant, too. From time to time I think about what my future replacement will be like and I like to think it would be easier than the original procedure. Then again, I get a bit bummed thinking I'll probably have a different pm brand and all since I'm attached to this one that saved my life! Were you like that?

Anyways, I would love to hear more from you if you're up to it!

Happier pacing!

Hi Will,
First let me start off by saying welcome to the club, this site is very helpful and the people are wonderful!
Anyway, I am 31 and had my first PM installed this past June.
I have always wondered what it will be like when I get my PM replaced so any info you have would be great.

I am sorry to hear about your last PM replacement though...I hope things are getting better for you as each day goes by.
If you ever need to chat with anyone please feel free to email me with a private message.
Good Luck with everything!
Christine

Hey Will,

Welcome to the club! I'm pretty new here too. I love it already though! I don't have a pace maker. I have a defibrillator. I'm 25, so like Tammy, I'm one of the younger ones. I'm on my first defibrillator. Though I've had it for two years now, I still get bouts of depression and anxiety. If ya wanna talk, I'm here.

Well, like everyone else I want to say welcom. I'm way past you in age, I'm 48. While my pm procedure went well 7 months ago, I have struggled with anxiety and depression. It is fading though and things are getting back to normal. Like a few mentioned, I'm also curious as to what's different. Take care friend, this site was/is a lifesaver.

Hi Will,
I'm way beyond your age group but would still like to welcome you to this great site. Everyone is right when they say you will like it here.

Take care,

My PM will need to be changed in a little over a year and since you are a pro, I would love to hear how the changes went. I would also like to hear the good and bad about having them replaced sometime. Hope this club can lift your spirits up! There's some great people here to do that for you! P.S. I'm only 26. LOL I'll say welcome again, even though I posted it earlier.

Cheers,
Jenny

Way under 30, hope I'm still helpful

Hi Will,

I'm 19 years old and have had my pacemaker a little over 4 years. My implantation happened only a few days after my heart stopped. I was and still am a very healthy person, so it was shocking to hear what had happened. It all went very fast and only weeks after my "episode" I was back to feeling great, with only a scar to remind me what happened. I never really dealt with the realization that my heart had stopped and for some reason started up again, and I still haven't. I know that someday I will probably freak out completely and I hope my friends will be there for me. I can understand completely how knowing you have to deal with this surgery after surgery (especially heart surgery) process for the majority of your life can take a toll on someone emotionally. I can't give much insight but I'm always here to talk, that's what this place is for right!

Hello

by CW-S - 2016-01-19 07:01:29

I just found this thread, but looks as though I'm 9 years too late to join the chat Hut I'll chance it anyway

I'm 29 and had my first pacemaker 5 days ago. I'm feeling okay about it, still sore, bruised and swollen but have got my head around the fact that it isn't going to interfere with my life just aid it.

From reading every ones posts - I was just wondering how you were all feeling knowing that replacement procedures are inevitable throughout your life? Obviously the older generation may only require 1or 2 but for me it's likely to be 5/6 (at least!)

Thanks,

Charlie
