Anyone with an Ela

Hi Pals

I had my Ela Symphony Pacemaker inserted in September 04.
At the time it was reckoned to be the best pacemaker available and also came with a long battery life. Last check by manufacturer I was told I had at least six years left..

I had my pm check yesterday and was told that the model pm I have is not lasting as long as they originally thought. Has anyone else gone through this?

The tech said that those who were implanted with the same pm about the time I was are now experiencing a "flick up" on the battery line. So far my has not done this and I was told they would check me in four months then said no, make it three months.

I know my pm will not suddenly stop working and I am not concerned about the shorter life span but would have liked to have gone longer before replacement. However I am lucky as I have been told that they will replace my pm for me for when I intend to travel overseas next year so that I have a trouble free holiday. Hats off to the Pacemaker Clinic in Hobart. They are terriffic.

I have a Sorin Reply

Hi,

I have a Sorin Group (Ela) Reply DR since October 2008, and it's working great. No problems so far. At my last interrogation about a year after implant, it said that the battery will last about nine more years. I only know two or three patients with an Ela Symphony but as far as I know they all got theirs between 2006-2008. If you have had yours for nearly six years now, it's in my opinion not too bad if it needs to be replaced somehow this year. Would have been worse after two or three years, I'd say. So, next year before you travel overseas sounds like a good plan. If you like your Symphony, you might want to ask for a Reply then, it's even a bit better at least according to Sorin.

Best wishes
Inga
