An article worth your attention

I was asked in a private message sent to me to repost the article I posted last night as an snswer to a post on Laptop computers. I would like to say that I do not have extensive PM knowledge or electrical knowledge; but I have extensive common sense. I realize that the company mentioned is probably covering all bases in case of a lawsuit, but I just think we should all be aware of certain things. I am always going to err on the side of caution. I am so dependant on my PM, that I am going to exercise extreme caution. The wireless world is growing so fast and we have to always be aware of things. So read this article and you be the judge on how you wish to proceed with it.

I posted the original comment about the Toshiba laptop computer. I got it directly from the

TOSHIBA INSTRUCTION MANUAL FOR SAFETY AND COMFORT

PAGE 12

"Turn WiFi, Bluetooth, and Wireless WAN functionalities off when near a person who may have a cardiac pacemaker implant or other medical electric device. Radio waves may affect pacemaker or medical device operation, possibly resulting in serious injury. Follow the instruction of your medical device when using any WiFi or Bluetooth or Wireless WAN functionality."

I copied the above from the manual. My husband saw this and showed it to me. I don't have a lot of PM knowledge and I am always careful where my PM is concerned.

Keep in mind...

I am no expert either - other than the fact that I have a pacemaker and I use WiFi, Bluetooth, Wireless, Cell phone, etc.

I have had no problems with any of these

HOWEVER,
We should keep in mind that some people have older PMs, which (I am told) can be more sensitive,
AND
We are all different. Different PM locations, different PM settings, types, thickness of skin, age, etc. So where 50 people may experience no problem, one might.

I asked my PM Doc about all of these things and he said I should use my cell phone on the opposite side.

The "Serious Injury" doesn't necessarily imply that it will blow up your PM.

Lets take a cell phone for instance - You're on your roof adjusting that old TV antennae when your cell phone goes off (probably youor neighbour asking you why you still have that old TV antennae!)
You answer the phone, but have it near your PM and it puts your PM into "test mode" (or what ever they call it) for just a brief second - so you get that weird feeling like when they do your PM testing - this causes you to lose your balance and fall off your roof, thus breaking your arm and collarbone... THAT'S the "serious injury."

Companies have to be careful and communicate potential "issues" - even if they are a long shot.
A good example would be the possible side effects of prescription drugs. Ever listen to one of those commercials?!?!?

IF YOU WANT TO KNOW FOR SURE - Ask your Doctor or your PM Tech.

Cheers,
D. Ward

YOU DO NEED TO WATCH OUT

Well my friend has a brand new ICD and his car blue tooth device interfered with his device. Made him quite ill. I know a lot of you are not having problems with these modern wireless devices but the problem is that some people are. Please take note.

Thanks for your comments

I want to thank both of you for your excellent comments as to using caution when handling wireless devices. Where our PM is concerned we can't be too careful.

Take care,
