Electric Foot baths

Hi there -
I have not been on here for long time due to illness in family.
I would like though to ask this question, I would love one of those electric foot baths, but have been told that because of the vibration, anyone who has a pacemaker this is a no no,
please can someone tell me if this statement is correct.
Thanx for any info.

As we always say here check with your Dr. But I have one and have used it. I didn't check on it but it did not cause a problem. The foot is a long way from the PM so it should be ok. I have no idea what the vibration would do. I also have a vibrating chair and that hasn't bothered me either. But just in case ask your Doc. Bowlrbob

ask, but...

I forget the name, but I used one of those vibrating things that works muscles in physical therapy. You stand on the platform and it vibrates like crazy and when you get off, muscles you didn't know you had are sore! They called the mfr of the machine and my cardiologist and they both said it was ok, and I felt fine using it. I would imagine this thing vibrated a lot more than a foot bath.

Don't guess

Although the opinions and advice in this group are generally more accurate and reliable than many other sources on the internet, I would not rely on guesswork or supposition, or anecdotal experiences of others when it comes to something as serious as the question of what you can safely do with your pacemaker.
I was told not to get near a vibrating chair or the vibrating thing when you get a pedicure. It is essential to speak to your own doctor or company technician and not to rely on anyone else's experience. Otherwise some foolish person does something stupid, puts it on the internet, and some unsuspecting soul sees it on the internet and thinks it is gospel.

Vibration

The only way vibration is going to affect your pacemaker is if you have rate response turned on. Even then the vibration has to be in the area of the pacemaker. Rate response is a pacmaker option that senses body movement and uses it to control pacing rate.

Before I had rate response turned off on mine I would experience a fast HR if the jets in my spa were impinging on my left should. No problem though, just unnecessary.

As for all the "check with your doctor warnings" I'll add my own. Be aware that your doctor like doesn't have a clue about the effects of vibration on your pacer. If you want something meaningful, contact the pacemaker manufacturer. Their phone number is on the wallet card they gave you after implant.
