Cheers

I posted a question a while ago regarding emergency medicine in the UK (I was studying in London for a month) and got some very lovely, very reassuring responses, so I thought I would follow up with news about my trip for anyone who cares to hear about it.

Unfortunately, I did have an event about five days after I arrived. Walking through a park on the way to a shoot, I started to experience an uncomfortably familiar dizziness, and I was able to sit down before I was hit with two defib shocks (already unconscious at that point). I ended up on my back in the mud with several of my new overseas friends peering down at me when I came to. They had already called the paramedics by the time I was able to tell them what was going on, and they arrived soon after. They checked me out in the ambulance and told me it wouldn't do me any harm to get checked out in the ER, so I went. About three hours (pretty quick by ER standards, in my opinion) and a few tests later, they deemed me dehydrated and overexhausted, but perfectly fine in every other respect, and so I left. There was no copay, I didn't have to submit insurance information or anything, and the staff was extremely pleasant. All in all, a five-star hospital experience. (Kidding.) I now look forward to going back to London for an extended period of time because I know that the worst case scenario isn't all that terrible. And the weather isn't so bad, either.

I lived in the UK for 2 years. In Yorkshire between Leeds and Bradford. I had a few trips to the local ER (not for heart as my pm is only a month in). I received quality care in a timely fashion with pleasant staff. Never paid a penny (or pence) and also never submitted any paperwork. The USA good learn a lot from the UK. Glad you also had good experience. :-)
