Questions

Good evening fellow bionic buddies! I have some questions. First, I know it's been asked before many a time, but is there any way one would know if a lead snapped??? Would there be any pain? Second, well, I forgot... Gettin old... :) LOL Oh yeah!!! This morning I had to walk to school from the elemenatry school where my mom works because I had to get there early and I almost passed out several times from not being able to catch my breath. It felt that my lungs were being crushed!! This happened in P.E. class last semester and has always happened, but I'm afraid to use George (pacer) as an excuse because the Dr. was adamant in me having a "normal" life.... pantpantpant... but I don't think it's possible right now. I've walked to school before, but I was already upset this morning, so maybe it had something to do with that. Then I was all pale during band class and my hands and feet froze like they did at that fateful football game... IDK anymore!! Besides going back to the doctor and racking up even MORE medical bills, is there anything else I can do??? I've Googled, emailed, everything! Anyone else have trouble "excercising"??? Thank you!!!

xray/interrogation

by Tracey_E - 2009-02-20 07:02:10

Sometimes you feel current from a bad lead, sometimes you feel nothing. An xray is the best way to tell if one moved. An interrogation will tell immediately if a lead isn't working anymore. I totally understand not wanting to call attention to yourself, not wanting to run up bills and not wanting to bother your parents, but this is something that needs to be fixed!!! Going pale, losing feeling in your hands. Honey, these are not good signs. They may not necessarily bad but they sure are not normal. Please, go get it checked out.

Getting upset can definitely affect your stamina. Have you tried a mild tranquilizer? (thought I saw that mentioned a while back that you got one to try?) I wouldn't do it on a school day but maybe give it a try on the weekend. Your nerves can affect your heart but it's a chicken and the egg thing- did the problems aggravate your nerves or did the nerves aggravate your problem? What it comes down to is, you gotta go get checked. {{{ hugs}}}

Me Too

Yes. I was implanted Nov 2008 - 3 months ago - for Complete Heart Block - and I get so winded! We do not know why yet but think after many tests (UGH!) that it is pacemaker settings. I do not feel like passing out - just winded and need to stop and regroup. So something is not right yet with me - maybe with you. But to me this is unacceptable. I suggest being a bit firmer with your Dr. I know that is what I am going to do!! Hope this helps a little. Don't give up until you find answers from your medical support team.

SNAPPING LEADS

by pete - 2009-02-21 02:02:22

Your leads are extremely unlikely to snap. In fact they dont really snap. A better word would be fracture. Fractures thankfully almost always take a while to occur. So you get sensations , warnings before potential disaster. This sort of oncoming problem is usually picked up at your pacing check. Leads that are starting to give trouble often cause irregular episodes to be logged in your pacemakers memory. Also your thresholds and lead impedances usually show a marked deviation from the norm. I have suffered severe breathless episodes in the past so I know how awful it is.As you like music and are feeling stressed have a listen to Jackeline Du Pre or Pablo Casals or both playing Kol Nidrei on Utube. This is very calming. Hope you like it. Cheers Peter
