Tattoo

Hey everyone I was recently thinking that I would like to get a heart shaped tattoo around my pacemaker site. I am a little bothered by the scar and think that it might actually look pretty neat. I wouldn't have any ink coloring in the middle cause it would just ruin the tattoo when i have to have the battery changed so I was just wanted to see what you all though.

... when they have to replace your PM, they will have to cut the tat in two and re-sew it. I can't imagine that that would look very nice.

Don't do it unless you have the EMS standing by. The tattoo needle may screw up the operation of your pacemaker big time since it contains a pretty syrong electromagnet.

Tattoos on other body parts are not likely to cause any harm so long as the needle is at least 6 inches from your PM.

If the scar bothers you, why not just slap a smiley face sticker over it or paint one on with nail polish.

Wow I have always thought about having the words OUCH! written over it.... or "cut in dotted line".... Just kidding. I am not into pain and those tools they use look like they would hurt...... A LOT! So that keeps me from actually looking into it. I also am much older than you and way past this kind of experimentation.

I would rather play in clay or take a friend to lunch with the money I might have used for a Tatt. Perhaps you could look into some other means of self expression?

When my battery needs replacement I will use a marker to mark the spot. It will say something like "cut here" ... or "cut on dotted line". hee hee Just my sick sense of humor.

pacergirl? Can you write upside down? Lol. That's a cute idea though, I'll borrow it if you don't mind, when my time comes to have mine replaced.
As far as tattoos go, isn't there a way to get a non permanent tattoo? I don't mean a decal, I mean one drawn with a special kind of ink that washes off in a few months?

Well after reading some of the messages everyone has posted I am beginning to think it might not be a good idea. Maybe Ill just have a henna tattoo done whenever im gonna be out in my bathing suit or something.......All though it still seems really neat but I don't wanna cause harm to Pacer he is my best friend lol.....Thanks everyone

My wife had a tatoo removed twenty years ago because she found it didn't become her in her latter years. In those days they had to cut it out and then stitch the skin together so there is a little scar instead.

Maybe I'm "old school" but I see young people all the time at my fitness club that have their entire arms and sometimes backs just covered in ink. I see no beauty in that at all. Is that just my generation or do the youth of today think it actually looks attractive?

Hoping not to stir up a malstrom of indignation, but I really do want to know what the attraction is for body art.

Princess - You have made a very wise decision and I applaud you for it. I will say I am not fond of tattoos on anyone. It is interesting to me to see someone with tatts on various parts of their anatomy and wonder how it will look in 10-15 or 20 years as the body ages and sags or as they gain weight. Some might be very distorted.

I am sure your cardio/EP would choke if you told him/her you wanted to get a tattoo around your PM scar! I am glad for your own health that you read all the comments and changed your mind - a woman's prerogative!

Gary - I think you and I must be of the same generation. Like you I do not see any beauty or attraction in tattoos; by the same token I do not find body piercings, etc. attractive. I see though that the younger folks with tattoos are attracted to each other and find some beauty in them. These younger generations are so very different than mine, or even my 2 daughters' generation. I have three grands all in their 20s and none of them have tattoos........yet! Well, this is a little off the subject but a fun topic! Take care.

Hi Everyone,

I am a 53 year old Nana...I got my first Tattoo last year in the summer time...It is on my left shoulder on my Back....It is a beautiful piece of art work ( Butterfly with a rose on it )...then not real long before I had my Pm implanted ( Sept. 6th 07) I had one put on my right ankle...a vine with 9 hearts...one for each of my 3 children & one for each of my 6 grandsons... I too used to have the thought that it would look nasty as I got older & everything feel south...but, You know what???

I don't care any more, the way I figure..its one more thing that I can say I have done with NO regrets.

My next life dream is to climb a mountain...and I WILL do it Also.

I recently watched Oprah...and they were talking about a "Vision Board"...I am making one of those...Then I will keep in tune with what my Visions are.

Oh...By the way...I did have my 2nd surgery the pocket revision...Yikes...I am so happy I did it...My Scar looks so much better this time...you can hardly even see it.

i got my cardiac pm at the end of june. i actually feel more inadequate as a person now that i have it even though i have a different kind of pacemaker in my abdomen for breathing. it's easier to cover those up than cover up my shoulder.
i too was thinking about getting tattoos to cover it...but aparently not? haha.
i already have one tattoo, but i want many MANY more (of course they will be tasteful and not where the whole world can see them once i get a job as a respiratory therapist)

I'm just reading this post because I've had tattooed fever lately. I've had my pacemaker for a year, and haven't got tattooed since. But I do have ten tattoos total before I got my pacemaker. I feel as if tattoos tell a story just as my scars do from all my heart surgeries. If you want a tattoo I say go for it, but I'd ask your doctors first. Then I would do research on good tattoo artist that works in a tattoo shop. I would totally not get tattooed around the area of your pacemaker though!
