How Scary for You, But....

....take a good deep breath and try to relax a little...easy for me to say hunh Pacer?!? Try to feel safe in knowing that your doctor is doing the right thing by having you on anticoagulant therapy and monitoring your INR's. Generally speaking, DVT or Deep Vein Thrombosis, rather than Superficial Clots, pose a more serious threat to breaking off and causing a PE. Even with DVT, once on Coumadin, patient's go home , can move around and the clot is dissolved slowly over time by the body. You sure did develop a rather large one, but again follow your doctor's directions...I believe you will be fine. Not all clots cause PE's and not all PE's prove deadly, I'm sure you're aware of the signs/symptoms of PE and you know to head to the ER should you experience any of them....but again, I think you'll do fine and I'm sending healing thoughts and prayers your way. Be Well, Carol

PE stands for Pulmonary Embolism...or a blood clot that travels to the lung.

Just wanted to add that I've also had a blood clot, mines was a DVT. It was in my subclavian vain. I was only 28 as well. It was hard to deal with mentally, but, I was able to get through it. Years have gone by and I recieve another visit from the blood clot monster. I had another one just lasted year. Now I have to be on Coumadin for the rest of my life.
I made it, and it was a little tough at first, but, once you get past the aches and pains your blood clot will have been dissolved and things will get back to normal. One thing you have to do, is make sure you keep up with your INR checks. It's very important to keep the levels stable to keep you blood thin enough to dissolve the clot completely. Try not to worry yourself too much. Gray hair cost a lot of money to hide these days. LOL.
God bless you and I'll say a prayer for you, okay.

I have had many clots. I had one on my pacer wire, several on lungs, one in internal carotid artery and a superficial one. I am on Coumadin and I am still kickin'! So I say just follow your doctors instructions and make sure you take that medicine. The INR at 2.2 is good. He probably wants you to stay within 2-3.
Sending lots of prayers!

The nice thing about this site is that there is usually a person or two that knows something about a persons situation, and along with that there is a whole bunch of people who are interested and who care about you. Hang in there, be vigilant but try and make yourself think positive.
Let us know how your doing,
Rusty
