step team..

well i have a pacemaker & i recently just tried out for my high schools step team & i made the team, and in the sixth grade i was on the step team also, and i had to do the stress test and everything. i did fine, so obviously we really didnt think it was absolutley neccesary for us to go through all the stress test and everything again. so i just had my visit to the cardioligist yesterday and when i told my doc, it seemed like he had a problem with it? it concerned me and father. because stepping/dancing is MY LIFE. and so basically ehat my doctor was saying is that if my coach is going to need hes sign-off or whatever he isn't going to be able to do it. and that really upset me. and he was saying that just because it is a 'high school competitive sport; i wouldnt be able to do it. he said i could do golf, billards, raffel. i dont understand how i can have a gun up to my chest? it just dosentmake sense to me. golf and billards just isn't me. im very outgoing. and they just dont fit my personality... so if anyone has any advice for me - feel free to pm me or post it on here(= thhhanks so much.

You didn't mention why you have the pm but it sounds like it doesn't hold you back any! Good for you. If the school asks your dr to sign off and this one isn't giving you a solid reason why something you have the energy to do and have been enjoying with his approval is suddenly no longer ok, I'd go talk to another dr. Some of them get really conservative, others are more open to letting us try whatever we feel good enough to do. If he says it will damage your heart or hurt your leads or something like that, then you probably ought to listen to him. If he's just going to be vague and say no, I'd go doctor shopping!

Doctor shop!

Really! I have an ICD and am 100% pacemaker dependent with a mechanical mitral valve and severe aortic insufficiency.

I do competitive dog agility. Read that as "Run, Run, Run, Twist, Turn, and sometimes trip over my dog."

My cardiologist and surgeon love it. I work out on the elliptical machine and lift some weights.

There's no reason for your pacemaker to keep you from a sport which does not involve contact (i.e., Dance and step ain't football!) Step doesn't sound much different from drill team or band, really.

Find another doctor, 'cause yours is paranoid. "Competition" does not necessarily mean impact sports. You don't need to be wrapped in bubble wrap just 'cause you have a pacer or ICD.

thhhhanks !!!

thanks soooo much(= and i have a pacemaker

because i have Long QT Syndrome. and i live in KY

and i have been with the same doctor since i was 3.

so far he has been doing a really good job! i love him

looots(= ha, but in kentuckyt its hard to find a good

cardioligist that actually know what they are doing.

and my dr. was basically saying that if something

were to happen the lawyers would come to his office!

so to me he is looking out for himself more then what i

want to do and become in life. my goal was to go to

college and step(= maybe even a schlorship! i sure do

hope so! and TracyE, even though i have a pacemaker

i do not EVER let it hold me back for anything.

because Jesus Crist is going to take all of our lives

someday - olny he knows when so we mine as well

live it too the fullest while we have the chance & time!

but thats just me. im a very outgoing person, i do

everything a regular 14 year old girl would do! and

sometimes even do it better(= jk.

-keep posting comments! their really helpfull !
