Palpatations

Hello,
My name is Pedro and I am 26 years old. I was diagnosed with WPW in 2000. I had an ablation and a pacemaker implanted in 2000 and I was good then. The pacemaker was replaced in September of 2007 and just noticed a problem 2 weeks ago. It seems that every time I lay down on my back or most other angles, my heart skips beats as I deeply inhale or yawn and keeps skipping until I sit up again. This gets very frustrating because I have not had a good night sleep for a while. I also almost blacked out yesterday after standing up from a chair. I have an appointment with my cardiologist this Friday. I hope to get some help then. Has anyone experienced anything like this??? Can my Pacemaker be failing me???

Hey buddy,

Your too young to have these things going on with you. My heart goes out to you and your family. I'll send a prayer to the heavens for you tonight. I wanted to ease your concerns a little. I've had that problem for many years and I've learned to cope with them as the years went on they seem to subside. I used to worry myself sick wonder if my pacemaker was going to fail me during the night. Surely when you go to the doctors, he may be able to give a little more relief to what's causing it. You may go to your doctor's office and he may tell you everything checks out okay. It may very well be the case, but to you, your feeling these funny things going on in your heart and you want answers. Trust me, I know all about the feelings of having extra heartbeats and thinking your going to pass out. I'll ask you to check your medicine for side effects and make sure you get checked out physically by a doctor. Make sure you get some emotional support from some good and solid people. It's sometimes important to not expect people to read your mind on issue's your dealing with emotionally. Let someone know about your concerns, just as you did here tonight. I'm here for you and you can ask me anything you want my friend. May your health get better real soon.

Me Too but Now I'm Better

Hi Pedro,

I had the same symptoms up until this past Sunday, now I'm fairly certain they are gone. So how did this get fixed?

Okay...had my PM implanted Nov 8, 2007, put on Lopressor (beta-blocker) and Rythmol (anti-arrithmia), felt horrible since I was often feeling I was going to pass out, had the extra heartbeats/fast heartbeats, uncomfortable feeling up my throat/neck area, and lying down always brought on an attack of this sort.

Yikes!

Dec 14 went to ER with heart rate of 144BPM, was treated with Cardizem (calcium-channel blocker) to control heart rate. Went home the next day but continued my same medications described above. Continued to feel horrible. Saw my cardiologist last Friday Dec 28, he took me off Lopressor, put me on Cardizem, put me on Digoxin, kept me on Rythmol.

Well....I started feeling more "normal" by Sunday Dec 30, and now today for the first time since PM put in I feel NORMAL!!! Wow...the extra and/or fast heart beats are either gone or so reduced that I can't feel them, the pain in my neck is gone completely. Last night I tested the "lying down" problem....and it appears that this is also either gone or minimized to such a degree that it is undectectable.

Apparently the medication adjustments did the trick.

You did not mention your medication, but you might want to consider that medication is the culprit.

Hope this helps.....

know how you feel
