A Fib

I posted a message last night titled "Now What".

Well, I called my doctor this morning and informed him of what was going on. He was concerned that I may be having episodes of A Fib. I have done some research, and the symptoms equal up, but my pulse is rarely over 100 bpm. For those of you who experiance A Fib, what does it feel like and what are your symptoms?

I will be going in on Wednesday for an interrogation of my device. Hopefully it will shed some light!

Paroxysmal ( intermittant AF) is often more disturbing than chronic ( permanent) AF. Everybody seem to have a slightly different reaction to AF. They can vary from not knowing you have got it for years on end, to being very distressed with a thumping sensation in your chest . Also your heart often will weaken over time developing cardiomyopathy ,particularly of the left ventricle, damage to the mitral valve and quite possibly ending up in heart failure (better described as heart incompetance). This becomes more common if your heart responds by beating faster to try and compensate for lack of blood ejection. AF is a life threatening illness and needs careful monitoring. If you start gasping for breath get yourself into hospital. Cheers peter

AFib experience

Hi
2 points to share
1. My afib experience is 2 ways - (1) atrium is quivering or fluttering (imagine quivering like jello), and (2) atrium beating irregularly at a fast rate with occasional thumping action or ectopic beats. The experience is the same - shortness of breadth, breathing action is normal but feels like not getting much air so some involuntary gasping at times, generally feels weak, cannot eat or drink, very tired, general discomfort in neck and chest but no chest pains. Mine is well managed by medication.

2. I was given to understand that if a person have had an AV node ablation, the person will no longer feel the afib episodes. In your other "Now what" post you mentioned you had several ablations. There is something different here in your case. Please share this info when you find out.

Ablation

Thanks for sharing!

I have had 4 ablations, but none were to the AV node.
2 were SA node modifications, 1 was for SNRAT, and 1 was a complete sinus node ablation.

I will update when I see my doctor.
