Sharp Pain

I have had my pacemaker for a little over a year now. I am pacemaker dependant after having a complete sinus node ablation in November.

Every now and then I can feel a little thump in my chest caused by my pacemaker. It is where the atrial lead connects to my heart.

Well, today I started having sharp pain in the exact same area where I feel those little thumps. Normally I feel the thumping a few times a day, it doesn't ever hurt, it just catches my attention. But now, I am having pain! It comes and goes in short little spurts. This has been going on for the last few hours. I am not really all that worried because my pulse feels normal, but it just seems so strange that I all of the sudden have this pain.

Anyone have any idea what this could be?

Darn those thumps!

They can be very disconcerting even though they are generally harmless. Most of us get them. There are so many possible sources of pain that don't have anything to do with the heart. Its impossible to know for sure without an exam and ecg. If its been a while since your last check up and the pain persists or gets worse, call your doc.

Amanda,
I hope your not being stubborn and have already called the Dr. office and talked to a nurse to get in for a pm check. Your settings could be a little off again. Remember my sister it has not been that long ago when you had surgery. I say it everytime but for real I need to pick up that phone and check on you.
Love ya girl and praying for you!

I'd call and ask to be checked. Maybe they can adjust your settings so you don't feel it. And an xray to make sure the leads haven't shifted can't hurt, either.
