Pacemaker moving ???

I recently posted a message about wondering if my pacemaker has moved or trying to move into my armpit. Thank you for the comments but I have had this one for approximately 2 years, it's been in there for awhile. Can they still move on you even if you have had them for that long? I am very concerned about this. Thank you.

My two cents...

Pacie,

My son (22months old) had a pacemaker. It was just removed because of a Staph infection. His infection only showed up as a bulge. No fever, or pain.

When I had taken him to the EP in late April, I had told her that I thought his pacemaker had moved. Because he had started to get a slight bulge at the time. She said it couldn't have moved. They create a pocket in your tissue and insert the pacemaker, so it can't move.

However, I have found out that your tissue or muscle can deteriorate and therefore the pacemaker could move out of place. My son's surgeon had planned on putting sometime of fiber patch in place so that the pacemaker wouldn't hurt the surrounding tissue- but like I said it ended up being an infection and had to be taken out. His pacemaker had been in that pocket for 16 months. I've been told the infection probably came from someother cut and made a beeline to the foriegn object to grow.

So, what I am trying to say- you should go see your ep or at least call. I'm sure many other things could be going on because I am not a doctor, but it could be an infection or maybe the pocket that the pacemaker is in isis iratated and maybe breaking down and your pacer could be migrating somewhere it shouldn't.

Good luck!

Cindy

Thanks!

I am supposed to go to my cardio next month. I am going to ask him about it. I talked to my nurse when I went in for my interrogation last month, so she set me up an appt. with him for this and other matters. She said it looked fine but also said that doesn't mean alot when she doesn't have an x-ray in front of her to look at. So I am hoping he can tell me something. Thank you, Cindy, that helped alot.

Sincerely,

Pacie

Since I got my pacemaker, I don't pass out anymore! That's a blessing in itself.
