2nd Ablation

I had my second ablation for recurrent Wolff Parkinson's White syndrome Monday and stayed in the hospital until Wednesday due to complications with my BP. When they were hooking me up in the EP lab, they put a central line (this is for your 'true' BP) in my left wrist. It took two tries to get it right. I had 3 catheters in my right groin and 1 catheter in my left and 1 in my neck. All of the rest of them are healing pretty well but the central line site is still very sore and has a small knot there and the pain sometimes goes on up into my hand. The swelling and bruising are looking good. It doesn't hurt all of the time BUT it is sore all of the time. Is it still too early for all of the soreness to be gone from this area? I go back for my 3rd echo next Wednesday and my follow up with my EP is a month away. I was just wondering if this is normal or is it something to worry about? I live a pretty good distance from him and I didn't want to go in unless it was necessary. I know if I call them, that is what they would want me to do. Has anyone had this problem before? Thanks...

You need to call your doctor

If anything to simply make them aware of what is going on. They will most likely be able to tell you advice over the phone until your foloow-up appt.
It sounds like you possibly might have phlebitis. It's painful inflamation on the vein itself.
I have very small veins and often suffer from it just from simple IV's. They always use pediatric needles for me, but I know they can't use those small needles for central lines.
Warm compresses are the only thing that nurses have advised me for these painful knots. Just keep an eye on the size of it. If the knot continues to grow, you should get it looked at as soon as you can. Also look for any redness ot just anything else that look peculiar. You know what your body normally looks and feels like. Just let them know of anything that you feel it "out of line"

Call you doc, and tell them what's going on, and I hope you get to feeling better soon. Bless your heart, you've been through the ringer.....
