Post surgery condition

My husband had a pacemaker/defibrillator put in 3/22/07. He has not been able to get back his energy and says he just doesn't feel good. They said he had developed an infection and needed 4 weeks of cefritaxone injected after the surgery.

Can others who have had the same surgery tell us their condition post surgery. Have you recovered your energy and health since the susrgery.

I had same surgery 11-19-07 and aside from having doctor due an early adjustment at two weeks which took me from EF of 25 to 40. I have recovered my previous energy levels and feel wonderful. Prior to surgery couldn't walk over 10' without resting now can run four blocks with two dogs. Hope your husband recovers.

Infection

by ElectricFrank - 2008-01-17 12:01:07

There are at least 2 types of infection that can happen with pacemaker surgery. The simplest is an infection at the implant site or pocket where the pacemaker is located. This should be easy to treat. The more serious and potentially difficult to deal with is a blood infection from inserting the leads into a vein. Since this is a systemic infection it can certainly make a person feel lousy.
If he shows any sign of fever or other worsening symptoms I would get medical attention quickly.
Hopefully, all will go well and he will get his energy back.
