Anyone in my position please

Hi Guys

You will be pleased to know that I am not on here to have a moan and groan as such. I am now at ease with having the pacemaker and have stopped taking the pulse every five minutes.

I would like to know if anyone has had their pacemaker reduced to 45 bmp. I still run and attend classes for keep fit and have had the pacemaker set at this. Whilst I cannot say I feel unwell, I just do not feel on top form.

Any comments would be gratefully received.

Thanks Julie

low

Is there a reason for keeping it so low? My hr was low 40's pre-pm and I was tired and dizzy all the time. My min hr is 60 now and I'm full of energy. There are a few here set at 50 but anything under that is pretty low.

And we call it venting, not moaning. If you feel the need, go for it, we'll listen.

PM Settings

Hey Julie,

I can answer yes to your question. In fact mine has been set at 30, 40, 45, 60, 70 and 80 during the 8 years I have had the thing. Right now it is 70. At 30, it never helped my heart a single time, At 40 it tried to help when my heart rate would drop into the upper 30s, but that was not enough so it was moved up to 45, still not enough so the next stop was 60 and now 70. At the 70 setting I find my heart rate in the 40s for a few minutes to several hours each day. I'm about ready to ask for the 80 setting again, which was the my first setting in 2000.

I could suggest that if you want to find out if you really need your PM talk to the doctor abut a 30 setting. That setting should keep you from falling over dead, but if the PM is the cause of you not feeling up to par now you should find out pretty quickly.

Lower setting

The issue here is what your problem is that resulted in the pacemaker. It sounds like setting you are talking about is is the lower limit. It only kicks in when your HR drops below the setting. So if your heart on its own would only go down to 50 as an example, you wouldn't feel any different with it set to 40,30 because the lower limit wouldn't have any effect.
My natural HR never drops below 58 so I have mine set at 55. I could just as well have it set lower, but the cardiologist is happier at 55. I kid him that my lower limit is treating his anxiety!
