Labs

Hey there Guys: Just wanting to bounce a few things around and hoping maybe some of the mid west folks will have some input. Have had issue with labs being out of wack for awhile, since this wonderful heat and humidity has hit have been having some issue, waking in the morning with a most cough and by the end of the day I have baby elephant legs and am having a few more palps than normal. Currently on Lasix 60mg, spironolactone 50mg, Coreg 12.5mg and Dofeditilide 500mg daily. Called the doc and had some labs Potassium is a little low, 3.0 and my BNP is at 55. I know we need to add potassium but my question is, have any of you had CHF symptoms with a BNP of 55, mine has always been manage at about 5-10. I know it is still considered normal but what concerns me is that when I had a flare before my BNP was 100. We are new to the mid west and I am thinking summer is going to be a rough one, any suggestions

Hello there I cant help in any way because I know very little about conditions or meds. However, your legs would perhaps be a little better if you go and see a lymphodema nurse who can prescribe you some socks or tights that will help stop your legs from swelling up.

I hope that things improve, my legs have been swollen and i find it so upsetting.

BNP...

When I first started being diagnosed with CHF my BNP level was around 150. I had other symptoms that suggested heart failure but my BNP remained lower for sometime. Now that my CHF is worsened my BNP at last check was 1083. I guess the moral of this story is: Keep your checkup appointments, get the test done, take the meds, and do your best to control your heart failure. BNP level is not the only indication of CHF one should look at.

To answer your question – My doctor tells me that your BNP level can remain lower even as CHF worsens. I’m proof of that as my level has shot up just in the last few months.
