never heard a beep....

by irisheyes317 - 2010-04-29 06:04:13

....and never want to! LOL However, I have a Medtronic ICD & my booklet tells me if I ever hear a beeping sound, to contact my EP immediately. I'm sure they are all basically the same and a beeping means somethig isnt quite right. Maybe nothing major, but to be on the safe side, I'd suggest you make the call & let the experts figure out whats going on. See what your booklet has to say about it as well. Good luck.

beeps

I have a medtronic PM/ICD. it is set to beep at 5 pm if it has detected something in the last 24 hours, this could include several things such as an eposode that your unit had to pace you out of for instance. It is set to beep every 4 hours 4, eight 12 etc if it detects a broken lead, I have one of the recalled leads. So if I were you I would call my doctor so a tech can see what the beep is about.

Yes...

about a year or two ago I heard 3 or 4 barely audible beeps while sitting at my brother's table eating Christmas dinner. Both my brother and I heard the beeps and we both thought it came from me but we were not entirely sure.

Could it be a Boston Scientific feature??? I also have a Boston Scientific PM installed in 2007.

This week...

was the first time I had heard anything, just posted on it Tuesday. Mine was a steady, barely audible tone while I was cleaning a portable, battery operated disolved oxygen meter at work.

The meter was off and I was rinsing the probe in a stream of water. As I leaned back the tone quit, lean toward meter it started. Also the same day I heard it while using a computer that I use all the time but had never heard the tone before.

Mine is a Boston Scientific PM. I've only been back to my EP once since implant on 2-10-10 for interegation and didn't hear a tone.

Medtronic Booklet?

by cruz - 2010-04-30 09:04:53

I must be a total ditz. I don't recall ever getting a booklet and I'm pretty sure I would have noticed something telling me about a beeping. I have no clue about settings or what I'm pacing. I've gone in for a follow-up and was having the "hiccups" often which seems to have dimished. I would swear that one night it was "humming"......Any clues in your booklet if it was my imagination or if it truly was humming. I convinced myself it was paranoia.

beeping of the device

audible alert are always present in all brands. It depends on wether they are activated or not. And there are demontration tones for patiets durring device check-ups for teaching. It can can different meanings: the battery voltage can be down ( this nesseciates replacement), leads' empedances can be high ( leeada are the cables from the device to your heart. Empedance is a sort of the masurement with which the cable opposes agaist the electrical enery produced by the pacemaker or device. It is measured in ohm's and it should be between 400-1500 ohms. If it is below 400 ohms, it means that there is an insulation problem around the leads. If it is over 1500 ohms, there could be a break within the lead. ). Or if it is a CRT-D with 'optivol', the beeps mean that there are volume ( water) accumulation inside your lungs because of the heart failure. If it beeps only in mornings at 8 or 9 am, consult your dr immidately, it means urgecy. If it beeps other than the times I mentioned above, it's emergent and go to your dr right now.

Mine does

by Linky - 2010-05-03 09:05:56

Hi

I have a Medtronic dual pacing PM for the last 7 yrs. Mine goes off whenever I am accidently near stuff at work that upsets it (I work in electricity industry). Mine hums out a grand old tune if I am near microwave antennas or 132kV towers & some transformers get it going too. Mine is so loud at times up to 5 people around me have heard it at the same time - same for the beep. Totally freaked me out the first time & as I am over 1800km away from my Cardiologist it is not a quick trip down the road to get checked. Needless to say the blokes in the field with me nearly have a coronary if they hear it, while I am just calm about it now. Now, I just know what to do - move away from the source, jot down the date in my diary & each time it has corresponded with a recorded event on my PM. My Cardiologist looks forward to my yearly check up (due next month) as he is always fascinated by what the hell have I had happened this time to set things off. I don't know what your Dr is like but mine is awesome & I just email him whenever I am worried & he gets back to me within 24 hrs. If you weren't near anything at the time to set it off I would would run it by your Dr to see what is going on just to be safe. Good luck.

This is an alarm which is telling you to make contact with your clinic/ doctor/ consultant as soon as possible, so that they can establish the cause/ problem.
