Newly implanted

Hello--just got a pacemaker on 1/25/08, about five days ago, and go get staples out on Monday, about five days away...I'm sure I'll have many questions over time, but my initial one is: Can I eventually lay on my stomach and get my at least once monthly massage? This is something I thoroughly enjoy and would miss--massage--both sides up! Any advice?

After a month or so!!

You should be able to resume that activity after a month or so. As always check with your Doc. for an exact time. Laying on your stomach should be no problem after it heals. Enjoy!!! Bowlrbob

I agree

Welcome to the club! I don't get massages, but sleep on my stomach with my hand above my head every night. Like, Bob says, check with your doctor as everyone heals differently.

Staples?

Are those like stiches? I have tape over my incision... But the time they fall off, the site is supposed to be relatively healed.

Anybody able to be precise

This is a great question.

I am six weeks in and the only position I can sleep (well not sleep actually) is prop up on my back. On either side causes some discomfort and I have not even attempted the stomach. In my mind I had written off ever having a Neck and Back massage. Right now I could not stand any pressure on the operation site, or anything that might disturbed or pull it.

O'h dear - that is not we want to here - but we all heal differently.

Some info from anybody with experience of having massage, and timing etc would be very useful?

xx

Thanks to all for info

Thanks to all for comments; hearing that some of you can lay on your stomach and put "pressure" on front for a massage is great to hear...just need to take time...not that I'm at all ready, but eventually can you do pushups?--(believe me, I'm out of shape now, but would like to eventually get back to my exercise class where we do do some pushups)...this is a great site for information. A nurse I talked to by phone was shocked to learn the doctor put staples in me as opposed to steri-strips--maybe it's because one of my leads was out of place after they had me out of cath lab...and they were talking about waiting until the next day to fix it, but I said NO WAY and they went back in and re-opened and a different doctor did it (female doc first time; male doc second time)--and that's when I got staples--and it makes me a bit queasy to look at. Anyway, thanks to all for comments and info.

Massages Are Great!

Hi,
My PM became a part of me in March of 05. I started going to massage therapy about 6 months ago. Clearly, I could have started sooner! I guess I was too busy with physical therapy for shoulder surgery which came about a year after my PM event. I'm thinking that as soon as everything is healed and you are back in "normal" pre-PM activities, massage would be great for your body and psyche. Lying tummy down should not be a problem. Anyhow, I do enjoy my monthly massages!!
