Best ID bracelets?

Hey there,

Even though I don't think there's much benefit to a MedicAlert bracelet, my wife is so concerned about me with my ICD that it's worth it to wear one if only so she can relax a bit.

The question is, who's got the best ID bracelet, suitable for athletics, for a 38 year old guy? What's the best info to put on it?

Thanks!!!!

Medicalert.org has many types of bracelets including sports bands and dog tag type necklaces. Definitely put that you have an ICD. If you order one they can help on what else to put on depending on what type of medication you may be on.

Hi, Nutbeem.

I am a member of Medic Alert now that I have my pm (even though I also have latex allergies and some drug allergies, too). It is actually a VERY worthwhile service. But at any rate, like Shell said, they have many different types of bracelets--they even have sports bands that go on your shoes etc. if you don't want to wear a bracelet. Check 'em out again. If you have any questions about Medic Alert, many of us are members and can give you the low down on what info to store with them or how to have your bracelet engraved!

PS: Karen's web site is cool, too!! Check it out as well.

Hello,

I have a medic alert bracelet. They have a great service. They are also very helpful. I have emailed them with several questions and they have been good to email answers back usually within 24 hours! One concern I had was the difference between my pacemaker and leads. I have a medtronic pacemaker with one medtronic lead and the other lead is a guidant. So... my bracelet only has the pacemaker information and I asked about the leads. They told me if I had a problem and a doctor or ER called Medic Alert they would immediately create a 3 way conference call with a medtronic tech and/or my EP doctor. This information made me feel very secure.

I also feel good about having my bracelet, it is kind of a voice for me if I should be unconscious and my family isn't around.

I would also recommend Medic Alert as I think it was one of the first. The doctor that started the foundation was actually my family doctor when I was a child. He started it because his daughter had a near fatal allergic reaction to penicillin and he didn't want that ever to happen again to her or anyone else.

Laurenshop.com has "cooler" looking bracelets that have a bit more bling... than medic alert. But I do recommend their service. Check out their webpage and read about their different offerings.

I have been a member since the 1980's.........I love being a member and change my information as it becomes necessary and have been wearing the bracelet for all these years, but get new ones when the old one is old or unreadable from years of use......If you get one that is very very nice who knows if it would still be on your wrist after an accident or robbery or whatever. Thieves do not care who they steel from.

You know you're wired when...

You make store alarms beep.
