Something to be said for Rate Response

I just realized that there was an advantage to having rate response turned when I first got my pacer.

I could just sit in my easy chair, twiddle the pacer, get my HR up to 120. That was sure an easy way to do aerobics. Could get in an hours exercise without even breaking a sweat.

That is an EXCELLENT way to work out !!!!!

AND, you get to save those knees !!

So what IS twiddling?

From what I understand, my PM does not have rate response. Nevertheless, I am curious (my wife says that "strange" describes me better).
So, Frank, what IS twiddling?

Frank - you are a hoot. I'm sitting here laughing thinking of the dr saying you need to exercise more, then going home, twiddling and leaving the rest to the pacer...LOL Just don't forget to reset the thing back!

Thanks for the laugh,
Paul

Twiddling a pacemaker

If you have your pacer located just under the skin below the clavicle you can put your fingers around it and rapidly move it back and forth under the skin. If Rate Response is ON the pacer senses this as your being active and increases HR.

My first experience with RR was running a jack hammer in the front yard. When I would turn it on my HR would go up to the 120 upper limit almost immediately. At first I thought it was interference so I had my wife run the jack hammer while I stood close to it. No increase in HR. So I went in the house and sat in my favorite recliner and twiddled the pacer. Sure enough I could easily hit limit while sitting relaxed in the chair.I also found that just sitting in the hot tub with the jets on my back would drive my HR up.

The medtronics rep got a laugh out of it. That's when we turned off RR and set my upper limit to 150. No fun twiddling any more.

Try Diddle, Twiddle, Fiddle.

Now all I need is a brain defib. I thought I should save it just like my knees
