don't stop coreg

this is a head's up to those who take coreg and have a defibilator as part of your pacemaker.

my prescription for coreg ran out around thursday before the memorial day holiday weekend. because i was busy, i decided to wait until the tuesday after memorial day to re-fill the coreg prescription. stupid idea.
at 5 a.m. on the weds after memorial day, my defibilator went off for the first time since it was implanted 26 months prior.
my cardiologist later told me that the abrupt stop of coreg "probably" caused the defibiltator to activate.
he said you need to be weaned off coreg if you ever quit it.

my defilbiltator hasn't gone off since and i really don't want to experience that jolt again.

'episode' confirmed

by tedlutz3 - 2010-09-21 12:09:46

i felt the "explosion" in my chest as i was lying in bed at 5 a.m. i believe i was asleep, but i'm really not sure.
i sat in front of my "merlin" pacemaker reporting system and sent he data. the nurses called to confirm the "episode" of the defib going off.
when she called, i was driving to work. i joked and said "well, at least i know it works." she joked back: "if you didn't have it, you'd be dead." I almost went off the road when she said that.
it also was difficult to lie in bed because i kept waiting for another "blast." so far, no more, but i still have tough time falling asleep.

Well......She is convinced you would be dead??.....I think she may have been overstating the ICD benefits a little bit....after all, she does work for the EP who made a financial killing on having it installed in you. It may or may not have, Im not a doctor so I dont know anything...HOWEVER..... I do know how to conduct the "smell test" and when I saw what the EP charged my insurance company for my ICD (77K) and then found out what the MFG charged him for it (23K) thats when I started to smell that all too familiar smell

Like I said, Im no physician, only a person that can do simple addition and has some common sense and 50 yrs of living
