HELP Still in the Hospital

I have got a lot of e-mails asking if I am ok, I am doing. I am still externaly paced and that causes every beat to come with pain. Currently both of my leads are not working and getting a DR to fix me was difficult. I was transfered to a different hospital yesterday and am still waiting to be fixed. I have a post that I need some help with.

I have talked with many of you in the chat room would like to ask for your help again. I am a deaf young woman who knows very few people in the area that sign. I am looking for a EP that signs.

I understand many of you are not close to me but I would be willing to travel. I have had little luck finding a DR in NY state that will take the time to write everything down. My new DR here at the hospital wants me to see an EP to fix my leads but I dont think he wanted to have the communication difficulties with me.

I am currently in a "smart room" at Strong Memorial Hospital and I never knew smart rooms existed. I am able to have a PC all the time and everything I type to the nurses is posted on their hand held PC and they can typr back to me. This is so nice I can ask questions and they can just stop by to say hi.

There are several social workers here looking for a EP that signs but I thought I would ask for all your help. This site has been so good to me I thought I would again ask for help.
Thank you ,
Tiara

Tiara,

Wow, a "smart room" that is so great! I do not know anyone who is a EP that signs, but I do have a retired doctor friend who is in Kansas that is deaf... he lip reads extremely well... I will send him a message and see if he knows anyone. It is a long shot, but hey! Why not!

I am sorry they haven't been able to take care of your needs yet... I hope someone presents themselves quickly! Hang in there! We are here for you.

I am so glad they have the "smart room" for you! That is wonderful!

I am so sorry to hear that you still are having some problems. I did a google search to see if I could find any EP's that know sign. The only thing that came up from my search was that John Hopkins Cardiology and EP departments will bring an interpreter in if you notify them in advance that you need assitance. I think some other hospitals might be able to provide you with this assistance as well.
I was unable to find any Dr's that do sign...but maybe I didn't search long enough. If I learn anything new I will let you know.

I will praying for you....good luck with everything.

Christine

A possible phone number for help

by Swedeheart - 2008-03-27 09:03:46

Tiara,

Here is a phone number at this website on the first page one can call to find a particular doctor. Maybe one of the nurses can give it a try?

Physician Profile Help Desk at 1-888-338-6999 for assistance.

Might not be around..

Tiara,

I went back and double checked these doctors, the Daubert was last updated in '03 and Taylor in'05... not sure if you could search to see where they are now practicing... but the initial search link may give you some help in places to look. Once you see the list, scroll down to view speciality and then click on practice info to see languages, etc.

I am not knowledgeable about the geography there so my guesses might be hit and miss... hope this helps a little!

I sent a message to my friend, waiting for a response.

Hang in there!

Translator

by heckboy - 2008-03-28 01:03:10

Hi Triam,

I know that a translator isn't your first choice because of the possibility of miscommunication, but you might want to reconsider. I recall deaf defendants are given access to signing translators in court. Someone that does this would be clearly have to be pretty good.

You got some good advice above... good luck and I look forward to your speedy recovery. Keep the posts coming.

Hi!

Hi,
I have been meaning to get on here but had not gotten to a computer to send this your way. You are in my thoughts and prayers. I am very close to the same age as you are. We have similar stories but all are different.
I am not deaf but do live in a deaf community. I had three other deaf friends living with me and I am horrible at signing I learn slowly.
Translators are not horrible but here they have medical translators that have had to study some to really understand medical etc.
I will find out from my mom more info for you she works at a deaf ed school and would be able to possibly pointing you the right ways.
If you would like somebody to talk to feel free to private message me.
Blessings,
Tammy

Hang in there!

With all you have been through I know it must be frustrating. You have been given great advice. You have just as many rights as the next person. Be persistant and write it on paper what you need and demand. It is your health and you are paying them. I will be praying for you and if in my research I find someone to help I will get the information to you ASAP!

God bless you,

Amy
