Hi. I don't even know what to title what happened to me today with my EP in the pacemaker clinic.

First, he came in saying he had some very good news: that my heart is NOT going below my lowest setting which is 60.

What had happened was: when I had the holter for 24hrs and made a quick visit to the PM clinic where they changed the PM from Bipolar to Unipolar, the tech turned down my pacer to see what my intrinsic rate was. I think I spelled that correctly. And I think that means what my own heart will beat at withOUT the pacer. That is where the below 60bpm came from. My heart went down into the 50s and then down into the 30s.

So, the EP apologized over & over again, because I had left his office on November 23 thinking I had this MAJOR problem and to tell you all the truth...I was SO scared and my stress level was the highest it has been since having this dam thing.

The good news is: A Medtronic Rep was there, the EP was there, the tech was there, and a cardiologist was there today. They made quite a few adjustments to my pacer to see if they can help me feel better and are hoping this may "over-ride" the Junctional Rhythm I am experiencing. They could have made many more changes (and I wanted them to) but too many would just messy the waters if I don't feel good and have to go back. This time the EP gave me his personal phone number and said if I experience ANY problems, to call and that he would see me right away!!!!!!!!!!!!

The test was: after the adjustments I asked if I could go climb some stairs. The Medtronic Rep said I should just walk briskly around the hallways....I headed for the stairs!!!!!!!!!!! Because at home I cannot climb 14 steps/stairs without being short of breath and my heart wanting to pound right out of my chest for at least a half an hour afterwards.

Suffice it to say: I climbed 7 flights of stairs as fast as I could. Lloyd (my husband) & the Medtronic Rep were trying to keep up with me & yelling at me to SLOW down :) The only reason I stopped was my legs started to get a bit sore. The both of them were still on the 4th set and were huffing & puffing. I felt so different, better, etc. But I'm not going to put all my eggs in the basket quite yet...been there, done that, only to be disappointed.

So.....this may be the beginning to the answer of my pacer problems.

The fact that you could do that many stairs and come here to tell us about it is awesome news!!!!! I sure hope this is the first step in the right direction for you. You've been through the ringer and deserve a break!

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No...it's turbo-charged Pookie!! Delighted to hear you're at last being taken seriously and you're reaping the benefit already. Hope all continues well and you'll go from strength to strength. But, do ease off on those stairs a bit - you're making me giddy! All love, Sheila

Hi K, Only problem is when you make lots of different adjustments you can never be sure which of the adjustments actually did the trick. However you have had a good experience and lets hope this is the point where you turn the corner. Cheers Peter
