Battery Died- Trust your instincts!

I did get a bubbling feeling....my heart slowed down and I feel lousy. I called the monitoring center and had them check it at home. The nurse told me the battery had grown stronger in the four weeks between the last check. I assured him that was not possible and asked to come in. He told me that if I were nervous then I should come in....( you are kidding me right?) I ended the call by scheduling a time and letting him know I wasn't nervous just certain the battery was gone. Needless to say when I got hooked up...red lines and alert screens popped up. It is being replaced on March 9th. Trust your instincts...there is nothing subtle about how I am feeling with a fully charged battery and how I am doing at this minute!

basically you're telling us the minute you start feeling like crap and this feeling will not go away, our devices could be in the EOL mode???

good to know.

again, my motto always is: when in doubt, get checked out:)

Good luck on March 9th.

Not literally...it just rolls to back up mode and then it has three more months until it totally shuts down!

Thanks

Hi there I am on here every day at the moment as I've got a chest and ear infection, but just in case I feel better and am busy going out later in the week I'm just saying good luck now, hope it all goes well.

I didn't think the batteries just "died?"
I thought there was some warning?

Battery EOL

by pegasus9 - 2011-05-11 12:05:43

I've been all over the internet trying to find someone to state what happens to a person when a pacemaker battery dies, or is in EOL but I've found almost nothing! So I'm going to add a few comments as my mother goes through this process. She has had a pacemaker for 10 years. Last June/July, she was told that it was time to replace the battery/pacemaker. She had already decided she did not want to do this. Last Sept she went on hospice as doctor stated she'd be gone within 6 months. Wrong! She was doing just fine (preparing holiday meals, shoveling snow-albeit slowly) and so she was removed from hospice at the 6 month mark (March 2011). About 10 days ago, she suddenly started feeling very light headed. A couple days later she passed out with no warning. She has gotten weaker by the day and now needs a wheelchair to get her what would have taken her a few steps. She sleeps a lot! She has trouble getting to the bathroom in time, she says she has some intermittent head throbbing and pressure, and some back pain intermittently. Nausea is frequent, especially after exerting herself (like getting from the recliner into the wheelchair) Her HR was 48 less than a week ago, and 32 yesterday but it goes up and down some so the nurse thinks her pacemaker may be kicking in a bit yet. Mom is joyful and at peace with her decision and along with hospice, I will care for her as much as I can. Her heart doctor told her last visit (August 2010) that she would get more and more tired and that she would probably pass in her sleep. Seems like a nice way to go actually, when you compare it to the other horribly painful ways there are. I think for those of us who have a loved one that chooses this path, knowing what another went through is comforting and informative. Will update as I can. God Bless!

Battery dying

I have atrial fib and when I went to have my pacemaker checked today I did not have enough juice left in the battery to communicate with St. Jude's Pacemaker computer. I was sent home and told I would be contacted regarding a new pacemaker. How soon should this be done? How long is it safe to wait. I am not too stressed by it but my husband is.
