Airport metal detectors update

Recently I attended the wife’s side of the family reunion in PA and had to fly.

I had a PM/ICD installed in May 2008. Since May of 2008 when I have flown, I have told the TSA that I had a PM and they did a pat down check, which is a pain and takes a while. This time I decided to try just passing through the metal detectors.

I went through metal detectors at Sacramento, Ca and Pittsburgh, PA. Didn’t set off any alarms and no effect on the PM and a lot faster to get through security.

We set them off at some airports but not all. But it's not a matter of setting it off, it's that the metal detector can wipe out the settings on your pm. Most of the time it's ok, but it's very serious if you're wrong, you'll end up in an ambulance instead of on your flight. I do the pat down, to me it's not worth taking the chance.

Some airports are starting to test out body imaging rather than metal detectors. These are safe for pm's.
