problem sleeping

I have had this pacemaker for about a year and from the day it was put in, have had difficulties sleeping. Sort of a wired feeling like when drinking a lot of coffee. Are there any change of settings that may stop this and allow me to get better rest at night?

Probably your low setting on your pacemaker is not low enough. Before I got any kind of heart defect my heart rate would drop to 55 when going off to sleep. Now its 70 and pacemaker controlled and I find getting off to sleep more difficult as wll as getting a full nights sleep but I manage quite well so I am not asking them to lower the rate. Cheers Peter

Hi Peter,

My pacemaker is set DDDR which means that it sets its own rate based on my normal rate based on AV node self determination. There, of course is a minimum here too, but it is much lower at around 50 which covers my pre pacemaker resting heart rate. I think, but would like to know from others, that the problem actually relates to filling time which is set by the specialist. I believe that lengthening the time (in milliseconds) increases ability to sleep, but reduces exercise tolerance. Any feedback on this would help. Thanks

You know you're wired when...

I am just thankful that I am alive and that even though I have this pacemaker it is not the end of the world.
