Can I go Back to my job?

Hello all,
I have used the search for people going back to work and am coming up with conflicting opinions.
I am a Paramedic. I was told by my EP it would probably be difficult....but he wasn't sure if it was possible or not to return to work.
I was worried about the lifting under all kinds of weird circumstances....and I never know where I might land on a call! I can't refuse treatment to someone..who is in an auto body shop..or any other place where there might be things I shoild not be around.....but I did read where somone said they were going back to work on an ambulance.

Here is what I read earlier on Medtronics site.....It is not safe to be around radios.(two way or cb type) that are mounted in vehicles or portable radios.
Our ambulance have high powered radios and I am required to carry one and use it.

Has anyone else been able to return to this type of work? I never even thought about the Radios!

Thanks, Holly

Radios

I have been around various 2 way radios including CB and Ham radio without any problem. The main problem here though is since Medtronics has a warning against it I doubt you would be allowed to be exposed to them. I would be more concerned about the unknown equipment you might be exposed to while responding to an emergency. An example that comes to mind is an electrocution of a worker around high powered transformers.

Can I go back to work...

by Suzzy - 2008-08-03 03:08:16

I think alot of that would depend on what your Doctor is telling you. I can do heavy lifting during the course of the day but; then their are days that I have no lifting at all. Being a paramedic however, I am sure that you lift patients alot everyday, and I do not know if their would be anyway around it . Their has been times since having this pm implanted that I have over asserted myself at work, and I sure felt it. I have come to realize my limits, as you will. Keep smiling!!!

Going back to work

I had my pm put in on 6/4/08 I stayed out of work until 6/30. I do not left for a living, but could not drive. (my commute is 40 miles each way) So I was stuck home. I am on a work in the office 3 days and work at home 2 days for a while.

I would stay off work for a while, if you can. No need to pull any wires out and have to start over.

Good luck.

Sure you can

I am a Captain on a very busy engine that runs with an ambulance. I have been back to work for over 1.5 years. I have not found anytging that I can not do. I know everyone is different so I think it is all in what you want to do. If you would like to PM me please do.

I think I know what the answer is,,,,just don't want to hear it!
I did think I was going to sneak by and see how it went..but with that waring about being around the radios...I don't think they will let me because of the liability.

It is just over 10 years since a dual lead device was implanted for complete heart block. It has worked perfectly and I have traveled well near two million miles internationally since then.
