Sportline HR Watch

Has anyone tried this one?

I've been through all the brands with the chest band and none work for me. I also tried a wrist model or two but they don't seem to be well rated in general (yeah, the manager at Sports Authority just loves to see me coming!). This one seems to have decent reviews so I'm thinking about trying again.

HR Monitor Problems

I just checked the web site and the monitor you mentioned is ECG based. The problem with these is that both the pacemaker pulse and the electrical problem that caused us to need a pacer cause our ECG to be quit different from a normal one. Depending on our problem there is even quite a difference between us.

The monitor has to count heart beats by finding a consistent place on the ECG to synchronize. The pacing pulse is a large spike on the ECG and the monitor tries to lock onto it. But now suppose we are also pacing in the atrium. Now there are 2 spikes for each beat (One for atrial and one for ventricle) so the monitor may pick them both up and report the HR as 2 times the actual. Then to make things more complicated if we are only pacing part of the time the spike comes and goes giving an erratic reading.

My suggestion is to try one of the monitors in the store before buying it. If it is a sporting goods store you might even be able to jump on an exercise bike or treadmill to see how it responds.

The other possibility is one of the photo sensing type monitors. They measure the actual blood pulse in the finger and don't care how it was paced.

Thank you Frank! I tried to read the details on it but it was all gibberish to me :o) I doubt it would work for me if it's ecg based, my ecg has a lotta spikes.

Joy, I tried the Polar chest strap kind (and two other brands also!) and can't get a reading on it at all. I put the strap on and it reads 0, hand it to my husband and it reads normally.

I use a Polar device which I have found to be pretty accurate and dependable. There is a strap run around the chest and then a monitor worn on the wrist. It is also compatible with alot of work out equipment. The only drawback to any of these things is battery usage.

Hello,

I purchased the watch a few weeks ago. I have a polar watch that requries a chest strap also. Anyway, I am very pleased with the watch. I don't care for the looks but it functions great!

Btw, I am scheduled to have a pm implant in January...

Hi,

I have my PM implanted 3 months ago. I'm using one of the new Polar and it's working great!! All the new models have change the battery system and it's no longer a problem.
