diet challenge

I strongly believe that our diet is the root of our health. If we don't have a good, balanced diet, our health will suffer. I challenge you to try this for one week! Check out sparkpeople.com (no affiliation, just a happy user) and log everything you eat for a few days. It's free and easy to use. It will show you how much fat, cholesterol, sodium, and a long list of vitamins that you are getting. This is also a handy tool if you're supposed to be limiting something in your diet.

After you've done this, look at the things you are consistently low on. For me it's calcium, potassium and Vitamin D. Either find foods higher in the stuff you're missing or get a supplement to make up the difference. When I do this consistently, I find that I rarely catch a cold, I sleep better, I don't feel as run down as easily. See if it works for you, too!

Hey Tracy...

Thanks for that great information...I checked out the sight..there is a lot of information there....I couldn't navigate through the site to find out the area that you referenced....do I have to be a member of that site to be able to participate in the food diary?

Thanks again...you are a wealth of information.

Cheers, Mary Anne

nausea

by Tracey_E - 2009-01-14 04:01:58

Joan,
I would check with your doctor! Nausea all day is not normal. Could it be the Coreg? That's the only thing you mentioned that's new.

That said, small meals 4-5 times a day that are high in protein can combat nausea. And ginger can calm the stomach, either ginger tea or ginger cookies. Sea Bands may help, they're bracelets that use pressure points on your wrist, they're next to the dramamine at the drug store.

Loopy,
I hope you like the books!!! Lemme know if you need me to translate any of the words LOL

I'm probably responsible for some of that bloating! I felt it my duty to introduce you to yummy foods.

Sparkpeople makes it easier to watch my calories in addition to nutrition! When you're writing it down and adding up the calories as you go, it's so much easier to realize how much every bit counts. I don't think I'd want to see how bad the meal at Reds is!! Probably not as bad as the one at Duffy's, but still not good.
(to the rest of you... Red's is our local BBQ restaurant and Duffy's is a sports bar with amazing burgers and wings. I couldn't let Loopy leave Fl without trying it all! We were such pigs, lol)

You have to register and be logged in to use the diary. Once you log in, just go the the My Nutrition tab.

If you are over 55 add vitamin B12 deficiency to the list. The only way to get it is injections, skin patches, or sublingual tablets.

The adverse effects of B12 deficiency are due to a slowly developing neuropathy and can affect any part of the body where there are nerves. Weak or numb feet/legs, mental acuteness, and even arrhythmias.
