you know you've been paced too long when...

when your dr calls the two surgeons who did your last surgery and they've both retired!

Too Long When

Your first pacemaker was the size of a volkswagon and came with a ten foot cord.

Honest. This is true...

A good friend of mine (he's 73) told me that his Dad (93) did not want to live any longer. He'd had a pacer for a very long time. So Dad decides he wants the doctor to turn off the pacer..period!!! So the family and doctors agreed and all got together at the hospital to be with him in his last hour. He'd had the pacer put in for a very slow heart rate. So all having said their goodbyes, etc., the doctor turned off the pacer. Sniffles all around. Dad is still awake...for a bunch of minutes and then the doctor looks amazed and says that the old man's heart rate is actually going up and up until it is beating around 60bpm. Dad asks what the heck is happening here and that he actually feels pretty darn good. Everyone is puzzled but amazed and after awhile they all have to go home because visiting hours are over. That was over a year ago and Dad is still alive although he still hates being in that old age home because the food stinks and he's a bit miffed that he didn't actually pass on as he'd wanted to.
I am not making this up.
Thankfully, nowadays, the doctors put in pacers because you actually need them (we hope.....).

Patch, I think you're on to something. I just found out what my deductible is. Someone could retire off it.

You know you're wired when...

Your heart beats like a teenager in love.

A pacemaker suddenly quitting is no more likely to happen than you are to be struck by lightening.
