Magnets in purse

Hi! I bought a wonderful purse last year that I just brought out yesterday to use for winter. A friend at work just said to me she was surprised I could carry it since the closures are all magnetic...they are covered in leather but there are 10 magnets in the purse. Does anyone know if purse magnets will mess up my pacemaker? Obviously did not have a pacemaker when I bought purse. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who knows about the magnets in a purse. Thanks a million!

If they are small, it's probably ok. I found an adorable shoulder bag at Brighton just last week that I wanted but it had a huge magnet on the flap so I passed on it. (pout, pout! it was really cute) In 15 yrs of having a pm, that's the first time that happened! Little magnets are fine, just carry the bag on the side opposite your pm. If you feel bad, stop using it. As the others said, a magnet that size won't hurt you. Worst case it puts your pm into backup mode, but as soon as you move the magnet away it goes back to full function with no harm done.

Joy, they gave me one of those when I got my first pm! I never used it and don't even know where it is anymore. I was told it was for emergencies if it malfunctioned, to put it over the pm until I could get to the ER.

I had that purse, but when I got my PM in July I gave it to my daughter. Made me nervous. But I sure do miss it!

I agree...

with Cabg Patch, 10 magnets are alot but unless all the magnets are lined up and acting on each other and are right on your device, you shouldn't have a problem. I don't remember what the strength of the magnet has to be to effect a device but it's fairly powerful. Some people on this site have said the received prescription magnets to carry incase they needed to deactivate their devices. Wish i would have had one of those!

You know you're wired when...

You prefer rechargeable batteries.

It may be the first time we've felt a normal heart rhythm in a long time, so of course it seems too fast and too strong.
