fast heart rate with pm

What could be causing a pronounced beating of the heart if I have a PM?  I recently had an interrogation followed by an echo.  Since than the heart feels like it is racing or palpitating. It is keeping me up . The Dr. wants me to return in 3 weeks.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

Call The Doctor

Hello Branch57,

The pronounced heart beating you hear could be caused by your new PM needing some adjustments. Only your Dr can tell you for certain. But the only way he will know you may need help is to let him know. Pay no attention to that 3 weeks the Dr proposed. That is for people that are not having difficulty and from what you say you are not one of them.

Good luck,

Smitty

Settings

It sounds like they did more than just an interrogation. They may have changed some settings before the echo. There are a couple of possibilities here.

The first is that their intentions were to program the new settings and then verify your hearts operation.

The second is that they programed the pacemaker to temporarily increase your HR and then for some reason left it that way.

In either case there is no reason you should put up with the discomfort for three weeks. Call the doctor and tell them you want to have a follow up. You may have to be firm about it. A busy doc will often put you off for his/her own convenience. Remember they are working for you. If this is hard to do, just remind yourself that if you don't take action then you are responsible for your own discomfort.

By the way I also strongly suggest you ask (insist) on being given a copy of the pre and post programming report at each checkup. If we had that we could likely suggest what is happening.

good luck,

hi i am going through the same i have had my pm for nearly 3 years and the symptoms are getting worse i got told today that i need an RV septum or Lv lead fitted because the blood flows one way and when my pm goes off it tries sending the blood the opposite way so i am getting a fast heart rate and palpatations with breathlessness and dizzy spells , They informed me that it is very common and only sensitive people feel it lol Thats there excuse for everything !!!! But the same as the above if you are having problems then ask for them to bring your appointment closer , hope you sort it out
