my baby and his pacemaker

hi. I've written before on parents and kids site. Has anyone had trouble after their pacemaker with infection on the cut or fluid around the heart. My baby is back in hospital yet again with fluid around the heart and they don't know if its infection or a reaction to the tape being attached to the heart. I'm so worried for him. Thanks to you all xxx

Hello again, Im so sorry things are not going well for you. I just cant help wondering that the doctors are being a bit naughty and not putting you in the full picture so as not to worry you. The story of tape and or infection seems the least likely cause. I would ask the doctor to give you the facts straight. The problem is more likely to be Fetal Hydrops and you need the doctor to tell you it is not that. It is a complication of his poor heart function. The problem I have is that I want to help you anyway I can, but how do I do it with out worrying you? And in any case I could be wrong. You can find out more about fluid in babies by visiting the Childrens Hospital of Winsconsin. If you type in google
Hydrops Fetalis/Erythroblastosis Fetalis you will find out more information. Plese keep us updated as we are all thinking of him. Best wishes pete

the fluid around the heart got worse and he went into heart failure. He was put on a ventilator too. We were devistated. He was rushed to Alder Hey in Liverpool and they put a drainage tube in. It worked. After several checks his hearts now fine. I can't believe I nearly lost my baby. I remember seeing him with a tube down his throat and swollen eyes. Thats all that sticks in my head. Any how look to the future. Thanks for your reply and kind words best wishes Alison

A properly implanted and adjusted pacemaker will not even be noticeable after you get over the surgery.
