Rapid Heart Rate

I have a dual lead pacemaker. It was installed on 6/25/08. It was for tachy-brady syndrome. I would have bouts of A-Fib and my heart rate would also drop to 30 bpm's for days. Like everyone else the pacer took me a while to get used to. I've been feeling pretty good for a while now. Recently it seems like my heart has been racing but my heart rate is at it's normal 60 bpm. Why can't I see this rapid heart rate when I check my pulse? Is this due to the double leads? I know when I had an episode of A-Fib before the pacer I could really feel it. I'm assuming this means means the pacer and leads are doing their job. The rapid rate I feel doesn't last too long and has no effect other than the strange feeling. Has anyone else had this issue.
Thanks

The pm can't slow down the atria, but it can slow down your pulse. It's very possible that your atria is fibrillating but the pm is putting you into a block and preventing the ventricle from keeping up. A 2:1 block would be where the atria beats twice and the ventricle beats once, so your atria could be at 120 (beating naturally) but the pm keeps the ventricle at 60 (paced). Before the pm, the ventricle would keep up with the atria and your pulse would shoot up. I would tell them about it next time you have your pm interrogated so they can verify that this is what is happening.

Yep, me too

Just had my pacer interrogation today and found out that I've been having short bursts (the longest 13 seconds) of atrial flutter / fib with a rate of 320bpm. Yikes. I know how you feel, but don't know what they're going to do with me now.

Hang in there buddy,

I'm 35 and got my pacemaker a little over a year ago. It definitely is not a burden to me. In fact, I have more energy (which my husband enjoys), can do more things with my kids and have weight because of having the energy.
