Skin rash

Abby is 8 years old and has a PM. We are in Myrtle Beach right now on vacation. We were at the beach and in the pool all day. Abby now has a rash on her PM site. It is red and ichy. I used sunscreen on it. I wasn’t sure if there was some type of metal reaction. Any ideas???

Perhaps go to the local pharmacy and inquire with the Pharmacist on the potential for the rash and what you could use (over the counter) to calm it down. Hope that all goes well and you can continue on with a fun filled vacation.

It is possible if she was in the sunshine for a long period of time without a shirt over the PM site that it is burned.
I would keep a tshirt on her and let her have some fun. I don't think she would have enough body fat to protect the site from heat generated from the sun. I think it is kinda like if I were wearing a metal medallion in the sunshine and it heated up that my skin would burn faster than an area that was clear of the metal.
I hope she is ok. I would not allow the PM site to be exposed to heat of any kind and see how she does.

Poor kid, I hope it gets better soon! Aloe is my cure-all for any kind of skin irritation/burns the kids get. I've never heard of a pm causing problems like that, but it sure sounds like there's a connection if that's the only place she's irritated.

Old Navy and Target both carry inexpensive and cute sun shirts for girls to wear over their bathing suits. I rarely let me girls out in the sun without them, it's easier than keeping shoulders from getting fried.

Thanks everyone. It turned out to be a heat rash. It spread a bit over her body. I just freaked when it was only at her PM site. I have put calamine lotion on it and it did the trick. I will wear a t-shirt on her tomorrow. Her PM is almost a year old, so we are still getting used to it. Freaked me out a touch.
