Thanks for your input, I figured it would be safe to wait another 6-8 weeks because I do a lot of lifting and stay active, I don't have much trouble keeping my weight down. Also when my heart stopped it stopped for an extended period. However I was surprised at how long most of you were told to keep your sling on. I was told to keep it on for only 48 hours. They did tell me to keep my arm down for a month, but the sling was off in 2 days.

I was told only 48 hours for the sling. It has been 6 weeks tomorrow, since an ICD was implanted. I have full use back and have been swinging golf clubs at full strength. First time back out last week, I shot an 89, best round of the summer! Must have forgotten the bad habits. I am sure they will come back.

Hi!
just read your posting with interest..... I was told to wear my sling for 48 hours - after which I had to keep my arm moving only very slightly.... else I could get shoulder stiffening problems..... I was just told not to move my arm above my shoulder.
I am still being very careful as I only had it fitted on 24th July.
Hope you continue to make a good recovery!
Kind regards,
Louise xx

I was never told to wear a sling. Just told not to do lifting and not raise arms above shoulders. But it's always better to be on the safe side to avoid risk of dislocation

I didn't even wear the sling home from the hospital! I didn't move my arm around much for the first month, but it wasn't in a sling. They never said I couldn't, but it hurt so I didn't. They told me the odds of messing up the leads after the first 48 hours were slim, that I wouldn't feel up to doing anything strenuous enough to do any damage.
