Mammograms?

Ok... this is my third and last post of the day. TraceyE, I'm hoping you will have gone through this as well. I just spoke to my surgeon for the first time today on the phone. I was asking about placement. He told me he can pretty much put it any where I want. He said that he does not recommend putting the PM under the breast tissue because it can be an issue if I were to get a mammogram. Has anyone come to this predicament??

Yep, I've been through that more than once. Mammograms are not a problem!!! The first time, I told them I had a pm and they very gently did one image to get an idea where it is first. They had that on the screen when they did the other views.

We don't have a three question limit, you can come back if you think of another one. :o)

I didn't know anyone with it behind the breast when I got my first pm. The internet wasn't around yet so there were no message boards to ask and my doctor didn't have any other young patients. He consulted with a plastic surgeon but they told me they were making it up as they went along and they didn't know about long term problems. I made the choice to take a chance. I have had no problems worth mentioning. I breast fed two babies. My scars are hidden. I have no lump, I can barely feel the edges of it if I poke around looking for it. I can carry a backpack and the seatbelt never rubs. The only time I'm even aware of it is when I'm pms, it kind of tugs a bit.

You Can have an Ultrasound

I followed Tracey's advice and had mine implanted under my left breast.
My EP said...you will just have to have ultrasounds..which are kinder to our breast anyways!
So I definitely recommend having placed there for an active female.
Your recovery time will be longer as it is a more extensive procedure...but well worth it in the end.

I still have some soreness in my shoulder when I am very active....but nothing I can't tolerate. I am not even 3 months post op.
