5 months post surgery and feeling anxious again

Greetings everyone and a Merry Christmas to all. I haven't been on the site for some time which tells me that I've been feeling so much better. How ever the last few days I've been feeling a little off. I was at work yesterday(careaide so it is a physical job) and near the end of my shift I had a dizzy spell and had to sit down. The nurse took my BP which was 135/91 which is high for me and my pulse was jumping all over the place from 40 to 90. The nurse was not sure how accurate the pulse meter was but none the less it alarmed me. My heart has been feeling like it is skipping all over the place as well. Now of course Im just stressing out thinking that something is terribly wrong. Im not on any medications. The reason for getting my PM was due to 3rd degree heart block. Im so scared that the PM is not working and I fear the blackout spells will come back? Any feed back? I guess Im just looking for some moral support. Thanks for listening, Jean

I also am a nurse aide. I just recieved my PM 10/27/08.
I went back to work on 12/04/08.I too get some dizziness. I am finding it much harder to "do the job".
I am fortunate that I work 3rd shift and I am able to rest as needed.I got my PM for Bradycardia/2nd degree heart-block,PAC's. I worry all the time just like you.
I think you should check in with your cardio's office.
Maybe you can touch base with one of the nurses and explain your concern? Mine has a nurse practioner who is always available to answer questions.
How is your HR/BP after some rest? What I have done to ease my own concerns is I purchaced an Ormron watch style heart-rate monitor and I wear it to work. So when I feel palpitations or dizzy spells I can sit a minute and "just check" to ease my mind. It only ran $40.00 with the shipping and it gives me the peace of mind I need. I hope you will be feeling better soon.Hope my 2 cents helps.

Need to have a PM check

Your pacemaker records any significant events that have happened since your last check. So the best thing is to ask for a checkup. It will either show something needs attention or that all is well.

It is all too easy to become anxious after a dizzy spell, which just aggravates things. The nurses reaction didn't help. Doesn't she know how to take a pulse manually?

Dizziness and beta blocker?

by fiddlingranny - 2012-11-02 03:11:11

Hey Jean - I'm 77, with Sick Sinus, lots of pvc's and persistent arrhythmia and a/fib, despite 6 months of pacemaker, I got a bad dizzy spell after going back to singing in a choir last night. It lasted through today. Do any of you find that the dizzies come after special exertion? Do you think it's related to having a PM? I take 100 mg. toprol, and might change this if it's suppressing energy too much.

I love this new part of me, and very, very thankful that this technology exists and I know that it's all only going to get better over time.
