Ultrasound with Pacemaker

I got the word today that there was something irregular in a mammogram I had on Tuesday. I'm scheduled for an ultrasound next Thursday and from a search on here, found that some medical personnel don't want to do ultrasound on those of us with devices (I have a PM/ICD). I was sort of dumbstruck when the doc called me & forgot to ask which side it was on. The Medtronic site sounds like it's a doable test. Has anyone here had any experience with ultrasounds & devices? I was looking forward to the next 2 months with no doctor's appointments. I feel like I've spent the better part of the last 6 months tweaking meds etc. I'm not concerned about the results of the ultrasound because I've had a suspicious spot biopsied before. After this PM/ICD experience, I've adopted the attitude that to worry before you really have anything solid to worry about is a big waste of time. Anyhoo, what has been your experience with ultrasound? TIA

Not worrying until there's something solid is a most excellent attitude! Good for you :o)

I've had an ultrasound as a follow up to a mammogram right on top of my pm!!!! Got a real pretty picture of it, lol. It was fine. I think the kind they warn about is the therapeutic u/s where they keep it over the same place for a period of time, you wouldn't want that on top of your pm. Diagnostic should be fine, but have the radiologist check with your ep first.

Good luck!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sorry you have more appointments, they really get old.

My EP actually recommeded the ultrasound as it is less likely to pull on your device and pull it out its pocket. There is no problem at all.

Good luck,,the odds are in your favor..

I too had to have the ultrasound. I was a little apprehensive and made sure to mention that I had a PM to the tech. As everyone else said....absolutely no problem. Hopefully yours will be as mine was...no change from previous studies. Best Wishes...Carol

Thanks everybody!

Echocardiogram

An echocardiogram is an ultrasound of the heart. I had a fast heart rate the last few months and have had 3 of them. For short the docs call it an echo test. It is done just like when a woman is pregnant. They use the jelly and and instrument and watch your heart beat on there little machine. Takes about 30-45 minutes. If that is safe with a PM I'm sure any type of ultra sound should be. No need to worry.
