Walking thru mud

I haven't posted since my episode of VFib in June. The cardio doc put me on 80 mg of Sotalol twice a day to prevent future events. I am also taking 25 mg of Coreg twice a day. I slog thru the day feeling as if I'm walking thru mud - heavy tired legs & some fluid retention. Have mentioned these things to my doc & gotten the spiel that you've received the cadillac of devices & should be grateful. Excuse me but I am very grateful but it's probably not the device that's causing this feeling. Just wondering if those of you on beta blockers feel the same way. I had hoped this wasn't as good as it's going to get.

Beta Blockers

Gonnie, you reaction to beta blockers is what many of us have experienced. And I hate to tell you this, but what you feel now is probably as good as it gets. so, unless you see improvement in 6 to weeks, my experience is that it is not likely to happen and things can get worse. J.B.

Coreg

Your sluggish feeling and heavy legs may well be due to the Coreg, a beta blocker. Beta blockers are known for this side effect.

Talk to your doctor about trying Bystolic. I take it now and most all of the fatigue and heavy leg syndrome is gone. Bystolic is not well know in the U.S. and has not been here very long. It has a history of success in the UK.

Sotalol

Hi Gonnie. I haven't thought of the walking through mud analogy, but I often feel like I am carrying a friend on my back. I think we are saying the same thing. I have good days and bad days. This week I have felt especially energetic, but sometimes I can't comfortably bend down to tie my shoes. I'm hoping this will improve when I get my pacer in Sept.

beta blockers

Well, I have not had that particular feeling on the beta-blockers that I am on so far, but on the 24th I am starting sotalol myself, so I guess I will see. The doctor told me that this is the last med that they can really try to control my heart rate a bit and if it doesn't work that they will start doing ablations.

I take 25 mg of coreg a day and it does make me feel tired. To try to compensate for this I take 12.5 mg at bedtime so will be sleeping during the worst time which is after taking it. I try to get my stuff done in the morning, then take12.5 mg at lunch, as I don't do much after lunch. I am retired. They tryed sotalol on me and it made me so sick I could not eat, lost about 40 lbs. Changed me to tikosyn, it has worked good for 4 years now. Good luck.
