Blood Pressure

I've been having some little spells while walking or upon standing up. These never occur while sitting or laying down. It feels like the top of my head wants to blow off and I become really dizzy. It also feels like strong pulses running though my ears.. They happen at irruglar times with no pattern. Sometimes I will have 3 or 4 a day and then sometimes none. I finally got my blood pressue taken during one of the spells and it was 156/96. Tthis is very high for me. I usually run around 98/52. It doesn't move to much from that number even when I am cleanng house or have been walking.. I had a carelink appointment to check my heart and it shows nothing wrong, not even a missed beat or any extra ones. I am 100% paced on the bottom and 37% paced on top. They have run a 7 wire lead into my heart called an extertanious array (spelling, sorry) I called the heart speialist at the transplant hospital and they thought it might be vertigo and then I called my rregular doctor. It has been 4 days since my last spell. My queation is - Has anyone else had this happen and what was it for you? I thought vertigo happened at any point and given time, standind, sitting, walking, or laying down. .

Forgot to tell you all they say my heart trys to run a 26 mile marathon all the time and I am on numerous medicantions. The drugs are very well blanced out with my pacer. I have gone ahead and started medicine for vertigo. Just one more to add to the 14 I already take! I would appreciate any insight any of you could give me. thaks.i

BP

HI.

What you describe is exactly what my father says happens to him when he forgets to take his Metoprolol, a beta blocker. He has 2 stents for a past blockage.

He doesn't have a pacer or defib.

What really caught my eye is all the meds you take! perhaps one is interferring with another?????

I know when I was on over a dozen meds, I had to sit down with my pharmacist and actually plan out when to take what. I was extremely dizzy all of the time.

then with time...I'm now down to only 5 pills.

all medications have side effects.

Perhaps you could get your doctor to go over them all with you....sometimes I have found that they don't realize exactly how many you are taking.

Just a thought.

Pookie

I have had the lung completed test every three monts, The drugest has gone over the drugs with me and I have had two diferent doctors look at my list to check for interference. They are however keep on checking for whatever is causing this stuff to happen. My last set of spells was on Monday, bad ones, I have had 3 today light ones I will go back for blood work the last of this month, Then up to St. Louis to the lung and heart transplant people the first of May, Then back to get results from the blood work being completed the next week. .

You all must forgive my typing skills, please. I have two fingers on each hand that do not work properlly , (They think, due to nerve ending damage.) I am hanging in there with the help of all of you and support from family and friends. Pookie, I don't know how you do this all of the time. You are an encouragement.

Again, Thank you!

Hello;

Yes, I have had the same symptoms you describe. Suddenly feeling dizzy/lightheaded and with a lot of pressure in my head. My BP usually runs low but during these times it is sky high. I am 100% paced and have a CRT device for heart failure. The doctors think its some kind of anxiety attack, but I really don't think its that. I think stress and anxiety can sometimes be their code-word for the unspoken phrase: "I don't know whats causing it."

I have had similar problems for which my GP could find no reason. I decided to buy my own blood pressure monitor and have been using it whenever I have attacks of dizziness. It shows that my BP is low , often in the 80's over 50's , so I have been keeping a record of them on those bad days ( which are irregular and not that often), so that I can take it to my GP or consultant for their opinion.

I have had a lung function test which showed I have the capacity of 58 year old when I am actually 71 , so no problem there!

Have you discussed with your pharmacist about the time of day when you should be taking each of your drug because I have found that the dizzy spells often occur after I take my beta-blockers every morning, so I sit down and read my newspaper after doing so and this seems to help. I know that ther beta blockers do reduce blood pressure so this may be the cause.

Hope this helps.
Roy
