SOTALOL - IMPRESSIONS?

Had Boston Scientific Pacer and Defib put in 6/6/08. Immediately out on Sotalol. They never told me that the device also "paces" your heartbeat in middle of cycle (ie I thought the pacer worked if pulse when under 50 and the defib kicked in if pulse above 185 with Ventricular Decardia.

However, a week later I'm in bed and my pulse gets "locked in" at 105 and stays there all nights with "pounding" heart. I was NEVER told that the device paces in mid range. I was told next day that if you have Atrial blocking (even mild non threatening) that pacer takes over. VERY scary and I'm surprised I didn't have a heart attacxh from worrying about it all night. I also had 3 way bypass 3/17/08.

They adjusted it twice since then, so now when I exercise my pulse hardly ever goes above 90 - anyone else have any such experiences?

Real question I got away from was the Sotalol - any shares experiences with it good or bad will be appreciated.

I/ve been on sotalol for about the last 3 years or so. Initially was on amioderone which works but is a wicked drug in regards to side effects, etc... For me, at least, I find sotalol is much more patient friendly and has help control my arythmia (sp) for the past 3 years or so. Everyone reacts diffently of course.
