On July 23 I had aortic valve replaced. this was from a bicuspid valve I was born with...discovered a few years ago.

A few days after procedure, heart rate dipped and I was put on external "pacer", didn't want pacemaker but on July 30 had 2 lead pacemaker put in for "heart block".

Still a little sore in left breast but incision and bump are minimal.

The AVR was so major that recovering from the open heart has been taking the front row, but now am really wondering about this pacemaker. My pulse is fine according to nurses that are seeing me regularly and i feel fine.

I go to Boston Sci pacemaker tech sept 10 and he will check out function and supposedly set pacemaker down to save battery life if possible.

All of this is new to me. Still sore under arm and wearing bra around the clock due to sternum incision supposedly healing better.

Some of these posts scare me. I am jus looking forwrd to being "back to normal" and getting on with my life. I will go to cardiac rehab at 6 weeks post AVR and hope to strengthen my arms. I am 63 yrs young and happy with life overall, but this is big stuff and no one i know has a pacemaker, The only people i know of are in their 80's.
Did read here that some doctor didn't want to use general anesthesia for some operation due to person having pacemaker....is that right?

Any advice or info appreciated. jan

Hi there, I had my tricuspid valve replaced and developed heart block as well. two days after the valve replacement they put in my pacemaker. I understand the feelings, you go in worrying about one thing and come out worrying about two. sites like this one and valvereplacement.com have helped a lot.
