sore shoulders

Hi everyone! I have'nt written in awhile. It's now 3 months since the PM surgery. Has anyone else had shoulder pain? I never had shoulder pain/joints popping, before, but noticed it since the surgery. As I lift heavy objects, it gets worse, so I'm taking it easy. My doc said it's nothing related to the surgery. Could it be he's just "covering his behind?"
Thanks, janet

Sore Shoulder

Whidden,

This is one of those cases where I guess I have to say "to each his own." Cabg Patch seems to be of the opinion that things like your problem are the hazards of pacemaker surgery and the benefits of having the pacemaker may make it worth it all. Of course, Cabg Patch may be totally correct, but I don't agree with that conclusion.

First, no where in any literature I have read is it said that having a pacemaker may be painful. Complications from the surgery are mentioned, but I have never seen any specifics on what the complications may be, except the possibility of infection. So, I'm of the opinion that if I didn't have the pain before I got the pacemaker and I feel that is related to the pacemaker or the surgery, then it the doctor's responsibility to prove to me otherwise. The doctor saying "it's nothing related to the surgery" and trying to leave it there is not good enough.

I'm of the opinion (mostly based on my sad experience with my PM) that too many doctors are getting a free ride and are being relieved of their responsibility simply by saying "your problem is not caused by your pacemaker."

Be all that as it may, I say if you think your current problem may be related to the pacemaker or its surgery, don't let that doctor off the hook until he provides proof you are wrong, or until he provides you with a treatment regimen that gives you the relief you need.

And yes, I think the doctor is trying to cover his behind with both hands.

Good luck,

Bob

It does get better

My hubby had such a pain in his shoulder and he was told it was frozen shoulder and the doctors were extremely abrupt with him. It got so bad that he had to
take extremely strong pain meds for 4 weeks then it just went which was a huge relief.

Hang in then and I hope you feel better soon.

There are alot of things which are not mentioned in the literature.Trust me!
I have frozen shoulders in both my shoulders now. I didn't before I had my implant. I also have been treated for anxiety and major depression which I didn't have before my implant. Also, I didn't have chronic pain before my implant and I have been through alot of surgeries and injuries.

Alot of EPs only put devices in, that's it. They are only concerned about whether the device is working and that the leads are stable and the generator pocket is healing correctly. Whether or not it hurts to have the device is really not their concern. They will tell you to go talk to your GP. EPs really have no clear idea of what they might be doing to the quality of a persons life which is unique to every person. I'm not even certain they really care. The have successfully furthered medicine and their pocket books by putting one of the darn things in.

There are alot of potential side effects of having an implant. They just don't want to teach you about the down side. They are in business to sell you a device.

Sorry about the jaded response.
