heat

Hello everyone, I was just wondering if anyone is finding hot days a bit of a trial. We are having our first really hot day here today and it has knocked me for a loop. I have had my pm for 3 months. Thanks.

Heat Tolerance

Differant reasons for your device will make a differance in how it reacts. I am 100% dependant on my PM for Bradycardia. The first summer I had the device I was finding myself more affected than was confortable for me, so I asked the tech to make adjustments, which was done. Now I am no differant with heat than anyone else is.Ask if an adjustment will help.As far as cold, any surgical site will be more sensitive to the cold, so you should be prepared for extra padding if it is bothersome.
Hope you get some relief, it all becomes easier with time.

Where do u live

Its going into winter here at good ole Indiana now. I do know my cardioligist wont let me go back to work where i did because of the extreme heat but I also had bypass surgery in Aug implant in sept so i havent had the pleasure of having mine in the heat of summer. Ask your doctor and alot of people on here can answer that question alot of knowledge in here. I know I can feel my pacemaker/defib when it gets cold it is wierd as i can acutally feel the cold metal. Im going to make sure i have alot of clothes on lol. I think it may make u short of breath but not sure.

Heat intolerance

I don't know what caused you to get a pacemaker implanted, but I struggled with SVT, tachycardia, and all sorts of rhythms which made hot weather "a bear".
Heat can actually cause bouts of tachycardia as your body tries to naturally cool itself. Since my pacemaker implant, even taking a hot shower can raise my pulse, which is a weird sensation since it's always dead on 60 these days.
If the heat is really unbearable, I don't know of anything to prevent this other than staying out of it and trying to stay as cool as possible. Sorry.
Maybe they can adjust your pacemaker some. It's always worth a chat with your doctor about it.
Hope you get to feeling better soon. I've only had my pacer now for 3 months too. Implanted on 8/14/08.
Cheers mate,
Angelie

I had my PM implant 9/5/08 so still a newbie, lol. We live 90 miles east of Seattle, hot summers, can get windy/breezy and cold in winter. The few times I have been out when it was windy and cool I found myself on the verge of feeling like I was getting out of breath. I have PM checkup tomorrow so have added this comment to my list I make to discuss with doctor. Good luck and I wouldn't hesitate to contact your doctor with any changes. Sometimes a device must be tuned a few times before it is right. My cardiologist said it is like fine tuning a car.
