Hiking

Does anyone have suggestions for hiking pack straps and preventing them from making the pace maker pocket hurt. My partner and I went on a great hiking trip and this is the first time I've gone with my pm. My darn PM hurt like hell after hiking into our camp site. It was very sore irritated b/c part of my strap rubbed on it all the way in. ON the way out I tried to stuff a shirt underneath the strap and between it and my chest it helped a bit but not enough. I think I remeber someone on here is a hockey player and I'm sure there are many others who play other sports. What do you all do for extra padding?

Thanks so much for your help everyone :)

Meg-

I'm not sure if you've tried the "Search" box in the upper right hand corner of the site, but there are other messages that speak to this sort of thing. Maybe you could see about pulling up some old info. that other pacers have posted on this topic. Lots of good ideas!

As for me, I'm an avid hiker. I had the same problem for awhile, too. I've tried lots of different things. You could try one of those seatbelt like covers and see if that helps. I didn't like this idea because something was still sitting on my pm area for too long which caused way too much irritation. All the covering did was created a buffer but still rubbed. So I opted to create my own sort of thing. I attached a foam pad to the strap so that the strap actually sits off of/above your pm area--I can't quite come up with the words to explain what I mean. I did that and it works well because the pack actually sits off of my pm area.

Where do you like to hike? Are you a day hiker or a backpacker or what?

Keep playing around until you find something that works! But play around BEFORE you go off hiking again so that you're not in pain while hiking trying to figure out if your new idea works for you. Just walk around your neighborhood with your pack on to see if different things work for you.

Happy hiking!
