I too use a cuff machine.

Here in Nova Scotia, Canada, if you have your doctor fill out a prescription for needing a BP machine, our medical insurance covers the cost....

something to think about.

Checking BP

I use a finger type machine. Despite what the doctors will tell you any of the measurement types are accurate if properly used. The advantage of the cuff location is that it is more likely you will have it positioned about the same height as the heart. As long as you make sure you hold wrist or finger at about heart level they will give the same reading. The only problem with the finger type is that cold hands will keep you from getting a reading. By the way one problem with the cuff type is that for some people they are painful when inflated, especially if your BP is in the higher range. The pain can cause BP to increase.

I like the finger type because it is so handy. I keep it on the stand next to my TV chair. It is so easy to use that I check my BP several times a day to get an idea of its range.

So, there is my textbook chapter on BP instruments. By the way I am a biomedical engineer with a lot of experience in measurement.

I love this new part of me, and very, very thankful that this technology exists and I know that it's all only going to get better over time.
